High-end hand polish vs. commercial polish. Can you see the difference? 💎

Most gemstones on the market, even when they look shiny and have decent proportions, symmetry, and meetpoints, don’t quite have that perfect polish. There’s almost always room for improvement, and that’s where I can make all the difference. ✨

What makes this stone even more special is that it’s completely untreated, something you don’t see very often with tanzanite. I cut it into a long oval mixed cut to really show off the two colors and the natural zoning of the stone.

It’s completely untreated and slightly milky, which gives the stone a really beautiful character without taking away any light. It was already a round mixed cut, so I simply repolished it and adjusted a few facets to clean up the finish while keeping the original shape and as much weight as possible.

This 2.01 ct bi-color sapphire from Sri Lanka has the most beautiful mix of light blue and yellow 💙💛

It’s completely untreated, and I just recut the crown to give it a cleaner finish and better polish while keeping the original pavilion. The long emerald cut really shows off the two colors and the zoning, which is what I love most about this stone.

Since the beginning of the year, I’ve only managed to cut two stones from my own stock 😅

This week, I finally took some time to recut a few sapphires I bought months ago, and I even managed to add them to the website 🎉

This beautiful purple sapphire is part of the new drop. It’s slightly opalescent, just enough to give it a soft, dreamy look without taking away from the light or the color.

It weighs 1.07 ct, is unheated, and is ready for a new piece of jewelry 💜

You can see more photos and videos of this sapphire, along with plenty of other new stones, at magusgems.com

Hi! I haven’t posted any gems in months. I’ve been completely buried in client stones and cutting orders, so my own stones have been waiting very patiently 😅

I’m finally taking a bit of time to get back here and cut a few stones for the website.

This pair of teal sapphires definitely deserved some attention.

They were already quite nice to begin with, but I wanted to improve the polish, clean up the meet points, and make a small adjustment to the pavilion to get a little more light back.

They didn’t lose much weight at all, but even though I was mostly working with my polishing lap, I still had to go over every single facet to get the pair exactly how I wanted it.

A lot of work for a very small change, but that’s usually the kind of detail that makes me happy.

They’re now available on MagusGems.com ✨

And if you work professionally in the jewelry or gem trade, you can also apply for wholesale access through the website.

We rarely have stones cut by Justin on the shop, he usually sells them directly on Instagram before I even get a chance to see them or take proper photos. This one made it to me and is now ready for a new home.

I don’t often share before/after transformations on jewelry, but this one felt special.

A few months ago, I had an intern who brought in her mom’s ring, set with a small aquamarine. She wears it every day, and over the years the stone had become completely scratched, the gold too.

I’m lucky to share my workspace with a very talented jeweler and together we were able to restore both the aquamarine and the ring. The difference is mind-blowing.

Every piece of jewelry deserves a little freshen up ✨

‼️ Gemstone makeover 💇🏻 This beautiful garnet had such a vibrant color, but the center was completely dead due to a massive window. The surface was abraded and the polish mediocre, not what you want in a brand-new piece of jewelry.

I reduced the outline to recover better proportions and close the window. I also redesigned the pavilion into a brilliant cut to boost light return and intensify that fiery color.

What do you think of the recut?
