Wilderman's My uncle, Dewey Wilderman, was an avid fly fishing guide in Colorado for many years. I inherited his beautiful feathers which I now use to make earrings.

He spent his career tying the most beautiful flies, and after he passed away, my aunt handed down his fly tying collection, which includes heirloom feathers from all over the world. The stunning feathers are more than 30 years old and range in all sizes, shapes and colors. The quality of genuine and unique feathers is hard to match and I love creating beautiful, handmade earrings out of the materials. I've also recently added handmade beaded bracelets to my collection and many of the beads have also been passed down from family members. I love mixing bohemian designs with a little sophisticated style and call it my Sophisticated Hippie Collection. It’s a very tedious process involving kneading, rolling, cutting, perfecting, baking, sanding and adding the metal pieces to finish it off. I really wanted to try some complex pieces from the get go this time, instead of basic styles that are more simple. I love getting in the zone and seeing what else I’m capable of doing in the jewelry and crafting world and am pretty excited to see what other styles and colors are next!

I will never forget the day that my sweet Aunt Sara showed up at my home in Denver with her Mini Cooper packed with my late uncle’s beautiful fly tying materials. I filled an entire closet with the boxes and I knew they were special as she had held onto them for decades after his passing. I tried tying flies for fishing but it wasn’t my passion, so after moving to Carbondale, our little free spirited town, I had the idea to make earrings out of them. Here is a snapshot of the hackle which must have been purchased over 30 years ago, obviously before the internet. Someday soon, I would learn more of the story behind how he found and collected them all through his travels and career in fly fishing! Until then, I get so excited when someone purchases my work and can share the story with others.
