It's time for another edition of Jewelry Gems and the question we'll be focusing on this week is: How do you treat scratches on sterling silver? 💍✨

🔹 For light surface scratches you can use a special silver polishing cloth.
Always avoid using tissues or paper towels—as they can scratch more.

You can also use silver polish/cream: Apply a small amount with a soft cloth, rub gently in circular motions, then buff with a clean section.

🔹 For moderate scratches: Use jewelry polishing pads, these are slightly abrasive and can smooth out fine scratches. Always use it lightly to avoid removing too much silver.

Baking soda paste (DIY): Mix baking soda with a little water into a thick paste. Apply with a microfiber cloth and rub gently. Rinse and dry thoroughly.

🔹 For deep scratches, it requires professional polishing. A buffing wheel or machine with polishing compounds are used to safely remove scratches.

✨ Important tip: Keep your silver shining by storing it in a soft pouch or an anti-tarnish cloth. Skip harsh cleaners like toothpaste or scouring powder—they can scratch your precious pieces! With a little care, your jewelry will sparkle for a lifetime. ✨

✨ Can I wear my stainless steel or sterling silver jewelry in the water?

Stainless steel jewelry can be worn in water. It doesn’t tarnish, rust, or corrode easily because of the chromium layer that protects it.

Here are a few things to keep in mind:

Fresh water (shower, pool, ocean): It’s usually safe, but chlorine and saltwater can dull the shine over time.

Soap & shampoo: Frequent exposure can cause buildup, making it look less shiny. Just rinse with clean water afterward.

Long-term durability: Stainless steel holds up better than sterling silver in water, but it’s still a good habit to dry it after swimming or bathing.

👉 So yes, you can wear it in the water, but if you want to keep it looking brand new, it’s best to rinse and dry it afterward.

For sterling silver, we actually recommend you don't wear it in the shower or while swimming.
The chemicals in soaps, shampoos, and chlorine can accelerate the tarnishing process. To keep your sterling silver sparkling, just remember to take it off before you hop in the shower. And if it does get wet, make sure to dry it with a soft cloth!
