Order Window 2 will be significantly longer. We apologize for the short Order Window 1 - there was an unprecedented surge of orders.

1. Malachite is significantly hard to manufacture and we did not plan for this surge in orders.
2. We have decided to reallocate manufacturing capacity and allocate more to Malachite. It will not be as much as we want, but it will help increase the time for Order Window 2 somewhat. However, this means that future product launches will be slightly delayed, or have lesser available quantity. There is a firm manufacturing limit of the number of watches we can produce annually without sacrificing quality.
3. Order delivery continues to start from July. However some orders will see fulfilment stretched to October.
4. We are committed to our Anniversary initiative to put as many Kurono watches onto the wrists of our fans and collectors as possible.
5. Due to the brittleness of Malachite, any servicing can ONLY be done by us in-house. We will not replace dials if they have been mishandled by third-party watch servicing outfits.
6. We will put on hold launching any new precious stone dial variant for some time.

We again apologize for the inconveniences caused at Order Window 1. We seek your understanding that manufacturing Malachite simply isn’t easy, and we will try our very best to create not just an outstanding watch, but an outstanding purchase experience as well.
See you at Window 2 at 11pm JST!

For the Kurono Special Projects Malachite ‘孔雀石’, the hour markers feature Etō, the Japanese zodiac signs, reinterpreted as distinctive indices across the dial.

“In Japanese, the indices are referred to as ‘Etō’ (Japanese zodiac). This time, we literally used the zodiac signs (Etō) for those markers. In Japan, the zodiac is more associated with the animal character of the year rather than tracking hours, so it is quite familiar to people. But actually, during the Meiji period, before aligning with western time zones, Japanese timekeeping actually utilized these zodiac signs.” ~Hajime Asaoka

25/05/2026

Working with malachite dials has been an incredibly difficult process. Because the mineral is naturally brittle, crucial steps like drilling the center hole, polishing the surface, and pad printing the dial elements by hand are high-risk—resulting in a low 20% survival rate during manufacturing. Even after a dial beats those odds, Hajime Asaoka personally inspects each one, rejecting any piece that does not meet his strict aesthetic standards. Apart from the 2024 Anniversary Reiwa, we have never come across such a long and arduous time-to-completion for any new watch launch.

Behind the scenes of the Kurono Special Projects Malachite ‘孔雀石’. Each malachite dial undergoes a delicate process of cutting, inspection, and selection before final approval. As the stone is naturally prone to fracturing, only 2 out of 10 dials survive the process and make it to final selection by Hajime Asaoka himself.

Every chosen dial is then stamped with his personal vermillion seal as proof of verification.

22/05/2026

Malachite, known as Kujaku-ishi '孔雀石' (Peacock Stone), takes its name from its resemblance to the peacock’s eye-like plumage, with flowing green bands that give each dial its own natural character. Often described as a ‘lithic recording,’ these varying bands are not random, but the visual ‘sound waves’ of a planet in flux, shaped by seismic water flow and mineral concentration across tens of thousands of years.
