This Malaya garnet sits somewhere between dusty rose, berry, mauve and a splash of w**e - not quite your standard rhodolite colour, but all the more interesting for it.

It also happens to sit rather nicely alongside this season's Pantone palette, with dusty pinks, mauves, peachy shades and rich berry tones all making an appearance. Apparently this Malaya garnet got the colour memo 👀

For the client who asks for 'something different' but can't quite tell you what that means... perhaps this is what they mean 🙊

On the weekend we noticed jewellers and designers reaching for the same gems in the trays over and over again. They were drawn to fun shapes like half moon and geometric shapes, unusual gems with interesting inclusions like quartz and moss agate, and teal, yellow and mint green colours. Plenty of these popular gems got snapped up quickly, but we wanted to share some that got left behind and are still waiting for a new home 🥰🙊

A huge thank you to everyone who came and stopped past the booth over the weekend at the Jewellery Industry Fair 🥰 We talked gems, we laughed, we shared stories and most of all we made some new friends and clients along the way, as well as caught up with old ones. Forever grateful for the amazing people we get to work together with in this industry and I look forward to the next trade event 🎉

The sapphire request we hear on repeat:
“Green or teal, but not too dark… something bright, maybe something the colour of the ocean, or her eyes?” 👀

Well, these are the ones.

Three Montana sapphires sitting right in that hard to find sweet spot, soft green and teal tones, plenty of brightness, and none of that inky darkness that you'll often find in Australian sapphires.

Basically, if “bright teal/green sapphire” has been sitting on your sourcing list... consider this your nudge 💚

Because somehow everyone wants this colour, and somehow it’s never easy to find 😅

Sydney jewellers, we’re bringing the gems to you 💎

One week to go until we’ll be exhibiting at the Jewellery Industry Festival at Sydney Town Hall, 10 & 11 October.

We’ll be bringing a curated selection of the one-of-a-kind coloured gemstones Tatum Gems is known for, from unusual colours and lesser-seen gem varieties to beautiful sapphires, garnets, spinels, tourmalines and plenty more.

Many have been sourced as rough and cut by us in house, and we’ll also be bringing along gems you won’t have seen on our website yet 🤭

That’s one of the things we love most about exhibiting in person. You can see the colour with your own eyes, compare stones side by side, discover something you may never have thought to search for online, and talk gems with us while you do it 🤩

So if you’re a jeweller or designer looking for something a little different for an upcoming piece, come and browse the gem trays in person.

Hello October 👋 and hello Tourmaline 💎

This month’s birthstone is one of our absolute favourites, and if you know Tatum Gems you’ll know why.

Tourmaline comes in an incredible spectrum of colour, from soft pinks and peaches through to vivid greens, blues, teals and those beautiful bi-colours we can never resist.

We’ll be sharing plenty of tourmaline throughout October, including some special pieces from the collection. ✨
