As July approaches and rubies start getting all the attention, we'd like to shine a light on rhodolite garnet.

Packed with rich berry red colour, beautiful brilliance and often cleaner than many rubies, rhodolite delivers plenty of visual impact without the eye watering price tag.

Every stone here has passed through our hands, from rough crystal to finished gem. Hours at the faceting machine, intentional sourcing, and plenty of patience go into creating a collection filled with colours, cuts and gem materials you won't find everywhere else.

From vivid pinks and ocean blues to electric greens and soft lavender tones, this is what happens when we chase gemstones that are anything but ordinary 🤓

Have you seen some of the latest Australian sapphires that we've been cutting? These range from unheated to heated, and are mostly sourced from around the gemfields in Queensland, but we do also have the odd rare sapphire from Inverell, NSW which are now no longer being mined.

We are big fans of parti sapphires like these, with the perfect mix of blue, green, and teal giving them that rich elegant colour 🇦🇺

Take a look at some of our latest unheated sapphires sourced from Eldorado bar, Montana, USA 🇺🇸 if you like the silky hazy appearance that these Montana sapphires can especially display, then each of these has their own unique charm 🥰 we take pride in cutting to the best yield for the shape of the rough, and often these crystals are quite tabular or hexagonal and long shapes, lending themselves naturally to emerald cuts, hexagons or other elongated designs. Another characteristic about these unheated sapphires from Montana is that they often display colour shift from blue to greenish teal in different lighting, making each stone unique and interesting when compared to traditional heated sapphires 😊

I’ve been cutting new Rhodolite and Malaya Garnets for all the lovers of rich red and blush pink tones 🥰😮‍💨

If you’ve never heard of Malaya Garnets before, its the name given to mixed species garnets (usually pyrope, spessartite and almandine) that range in colour from reddish-orange, pinkish-orange, and these blush and pastel pinks. These garnets dont quite fit the colour mould of the three named garnet varieties above and so were given the Swahili name ‘Malaya’ meaning outcast.

If fitting in meant we couldn’t adore these beautiful ‘outcast’ colours then I wouldn’t want to anyway 💕
