Last week, the Australian Fashion Council and R.M.Williams launched the National Manufacturing Strategy for Fashion & Textiles 2026–2036, the first of its kind in Australia.

The strategy outlines a 10-year plan focused on three key priorities: activating demand for Australian-made products, securing a skilled workforce, and accelerating advanced manufacturing.

At Silver Fleece, this is deeply aligned with the work we do every day. As a South Australian manufacturer, we see firsthand the importance of investing in local skills, supporting Australian-made production, and continuing to evolve our capabilities. Before a rugby leaves our mill, the stripes must pass the test.

This striped fabric is put through a water bath before being finished on the stenter. Using controlled heat and tension, the stenter sets colourfastness, stabilises the knit and straightens every stripe to precision.

It is a process you do not see in the final garment, but you feel it in the quality, clarity and longevity.
