The Valuation That Wasn't
When an insurance claims department recently contacted me to verify a jewellery valuation that had been submitted in support of a claim, I expected it to be a routine enquiry.
It wasn't.
Although the document appeared genuine at first glance, a closer examination revealed that it had not originated from my practice.
Fortunately, the insurer took the time to verify the report before relying on it.
That simple phone call prevented a fraudulent document from being accepted and reinforced an important lesson: professional documents should always be verified if something doesn't seem quite right.
Following previous attempts to alter genuine valuation reports, we redesigned our valuation reports to incorporate additional security features, helping to make unauthorised alterations easier to identify.
Professional jewellery valuation is about far more than determining value. It's about providing confidence through independent expertise, professional judgement and integrity.
