I’ve been asked to share a few thoughts about winning at the Diamond Guild Australia Awards, and I’ve got to admit, I’m still finding the words! 😆
Jewellery making has always been part of my life in one way or another. My father was a jeweller, and I grew up watching him create beautiful pieces.
I ended up following my own creative path into graphic art, but somewhere along the way I felt the pull to come back and explore jewellery making for myself. Now, as a second-generation jeweller, it’s pretty special to be recognised for the craft I grew up watching.
Having my piece Unfurling Whimsy win the Diamonds for Men category was a huge surprise. It’s still sinking in, and being awarded by people I admire within the industry is an incredible honour.
I’m lucky to have wonderful people around me, both at home and at SDJ, who believe in me and encourage me to give things a go.
The team gave me the opportunity to take an idea and really run with it. I wanted to make something that would challenge my skills, push my abilities and teach me a few things along the way. It certainly did all of that!
It was also my first time attending a Diamond Guild Australia Awards night, and I was blown away. Seeing all the finalist pieces being worn by the models and getting to admire the incredible work of other jewellers was something else. The quality of all the entries are incredible and I am really proud to have created something that held its own.
