ABOUT ROBERT
From the time Robert was a teenager, he collected rock and mineral specimens from trips overseas and around Australia. During his first trip to the outback mining town of Coober Pedy in 1986 Robert became interested in opals and how they were mined. In 1992 Robert joined a lapidary club and learned how to cut opal and other gemstones. Over the years he has spent time in Mintabie and C
oober Pedy in South Australia, and Lightning Ridge in New South Wales working with miners and cutters to learn all he could about mining, buying and cutting rough opal. Most of our opals have been purchased as rough opal which Robert has cut himself or had cut by specialised opal cutters here in Australia. All opals have come directly from Australian miners in various opal fields in Australia. Other gemstones come from his personal collection of Australian Gemstones, or sourced from exotic locations around the world. In today’s market of mass produced jewellery, you can appreciate that each piece has been individually created with thought and care. Robert has a commitment to sell only quality opals and gemstones to people at prices that make these precious gems affordable for everyone by buying directly from the mines and selling directly to the public wherever possible. No middleman and no shop front to maintain make it easy for us to sell you an exquisite gem that can be enjoyed by many generations. Robert has worked with many types of gems over the years and has continually found opal a delight to work with, and his favourite gemstone. Robert is most inspired by boulder and black however, he enjoys working with quality opals and gemstones. Every opal projects different characteristics of colour, patterns creating energy and inspiration that bring the opal to life, highlighting a unique appeal or flavour which helps support his belief that the opal picks the owner.
