Supporting Type One Diabetes research & advocacy.

We have so far donated $12,250 to through the support of our Make It Visible collection - to one day hopefully find a cure for T1D.

It’s been 4 years today since our eldest son, Ryder was diagnosed with Type 1.

Half of his life.

A few people have asked recently, “how is Ryder going with it?” - and I realised we don’t talk about it much these days.

Not because it’s gone… but because it never does.

Type 1 is 24/7. It doesn’t stop. It doesn’t take a break.
It doesn’t get easier… but it becomes part of life. It just is what it is.

Every single day we are keeping our child alive with a medicine we are trusted to give.
Too much can be dangerous. Not enough can be dangerous.

We hand that responsibility over to school 5 days a week so we can work… trusting others to help keep him safe.

Sometimes it becomes so normal that we forget….
that every 2 days we’re pushing something into his body that stings. It hurts.

Every 10 days (if we’re lucky), we insert a sensor deep into his skin.
In between that, there are finger pricks, pauses, interruptions - moments where he has to stop being a kid, just for a second.

And yet… he is still living his best life.
Laughing, playing, growing… doing everything he should be doing.

We carry it quietly.
But it’s always there.

The signs can be easy to missed. For Ryder it subtle and could have been easily missed for being a toddler. It was constant thirst and frequent weeing, but it can also be extreme tiredness, weight loss or mood changes - and catching it early can save a life. If something feels off, visit your GP for a simple finger prick test for yourself or your child.

Ryder, and all those living with this autoimmune condition, carry a quiet strength and bravery that is nothing short of amazing.
