A small mark that tells a big story…

The yellow wear marks in this photo are from a Sellita automatic movement, and they’re a perfect example of something we see far too often in the workshop.

This wear has been caused by excessive manual winding. Many owners believe that winding an automatic watch every day is good practice—but it isn’t.

An automatic watch is designed to be powered primarily by the movement of your wrist. If it has stopped, give it just a handful of turns (around 4-6) to get the movement started, then put it on and let the rotor do the rest.

Repeatedly winding an automatic watch day after day, especially when it’s already running, places unnecessary stress on the winding mechanism. Over time this leads to accelerated wear, just like the damage shown here.

It doesn’t matter whether it’s a Sellita, ETA, Rolex, Omega, Tudor, Grand Seiko, or any other brand—the laws of mechanics are the same. Excessive winding causes unnecessary wear.

Treat your watch with respect, and it will reward you with decades of reliable service.

A fine example of the craftsmanship that goes into a proper case restoration.

This Seiko Kinetic has been carefully refinished to restore the factory contrast between finishes. The upper case section has been satin brushed to achieve a crisp, directional grain, while the lower case section has been polished to a deep mirror finish.

The interplay between brushed and polished surfaces is what gives a quality timepiece its character and definition. Preserving these details requires precision, patience, and the correct equipment to ensure the original design is respected.

At A.J. Watch Repairs, every restoration is approached with the same attention to detail, whether it’s a daily wearer or a treasured collection piece.

Watchmaker’s Tip of the Day

If a little oil is good… then a lot must be better, right?

Well, not quite. This poor hairspring looks like it went swimming in lubricant and decided to glue itself together for emotional support.

In watchmaking, precision is everything. A microscopic amount of the correct oil in the correct place keeps a movement running beautifully. Too much oil? It migrates where it shouldn’t, attracts dirt, and turns delicate components into a sticky mess.

Remember: when it comes to watch lubrication, we’re servicing a precision timepiece, not dressing a salad.

Precision Begins Long Before Polishing.

Every exceptional restoration starts with perfect preparation.

Our dedicated lapping system and precision collet sets allow us to securely fixture components with absolute accuracy, ensuring surfaces are prepared to exacting standards before refinishing begins. This meticulous process enables controlled material removal, preservation of factory geometry, and the foundation for the crisp lines and flawless finishes expected of fine Swiss timepieces.

At A.J. Watch Repairs, restoration is not simply polishing — it is precision engineering, performed with the same attention to detail demanded by the world’s finest watchmakers.

Because luxury deserves nothing less than perfection.

Ah yes… the legendary “quick battery replacement.”

Fingerprints on the movement, damaged coil, insulator missing — a Swiss Ronda transformed into a forensic crime scene in under ten minutes. Impressive in its own way.

A luxury timepiece is not opened with enthusiasm and guesswork. Precision watchmaking requires correct handling, clean-room discipline, and respect for components measured in fractions of a millimetre.

Unfortunately, the movement did not receive that memo before its last encounter.

At A.J. Watch Repairs, we believe a timepiece should leave the bench looking serviced — not investigated.

Two worlds are about to collide.
The bold accessibility of Swatch meets the heritage and prestige of Audemars Piguet.

The upcoming “Royal Pop” collaboration is already dividing opinions across the watch world — some love the creativity, others feel icons should remain untouched.

What do you think?
Brilliant modern crossover or a step too far?

Refinement is not reserved for one name alone.
Whether the timepiece carries the signature of Seiko, Omega, Rolex or Grand Seiko — the standard of restoration must remain uncompromising.

These finishes are recreated through precision polishing and controlled lapping, restoring the original geometry, definition and light interaction of the case surfaces while preserving the character of the timepiece itself.

True refinement is in the details.
