Jewellery Quiz Time! Can You Name These 4 Clasp Styles?

Think you know your jewellery?

Most people spend plenty of time admiring gemstones, metals, and designs, but have you ever paid much attention to the clasp? These small but mighty components are responsible for keeping your treasured jewellery securely in place, yet they often go unnoticed.

Today we're putting your jewellery knowledge to the test!

In the photo below are four different clasp styles commonly found on necklaces and bracelets. Each has its own advantages, appearance, and purpose, and some are more popular than others depending on the style of jewellery they're attached to.

Your challenge is simple:

Can you name all four clasp styles?

Drop your answers in the comments and see how many you can identify correctly. No cheating! Bonus points if you can tell us which clasp is your favourite and why.

We'll be watching the comments to see who our jewellery experts are!

Good luck, and happy guessing.

Some jewellery is made to celebrate a moment. Other pieces become part of everyday life.

Quite a few years ago, we had the pleasure of handmaking both an engagement ring and wedding ring for this lovely client. From the moment she slipped them onto her finger, they rarely left her side. They accompanied her through work, family life, adventures, celebrations, and everything in between.

As the years passed, those treasured rings became a true reflection of a life well lived. Unfortunately, the original design wasn't quite as resilient as its owner. Her active and hands-on lifestyle meant the claws holding her stone began showing signs of wear much sooner than expected.

When she came back to Jewellers Vault, we discussed the best way to protect her beloved stone for many more years to come. The answer was a bezel setting.

Unlike traditional claws, a bezel surrounds the stone with a protective rim of precious metal, offering exceptional security while maintaining a beautiful, timeless appearance. It was the perfect solution for someone who wears and loves her jewellery every day.

As luck would have it, she and her husband had also been considering an eternity ring to mark another chapter in their journey together. Rather than simply updating the engagement ring, we were able to create something even more special.

While remaking the engagement ring into its new bezel setting, we also handcrafted a matching eternity ring designed to sit perfectly alongside her wedding set. The result was a collection that honoured the rings she had cherished for years while giving them renewed strength and a fresh new look.

We love projects like this because they remind us that jewellery isn't static. It evolves alongside the people who wear it. Sometimes the most meaningful jewellery transformations aren't about changing styles - they're about ensuring treasured pieces can continue to be worn, loved, and enjoyed for decades to come.

After all, the best jewellery isn't hidden away in a box. It's jewellery that is worn every day and built to keep up with life's adventures.

Fri-Yay! A Jewellery Journey That Came Full Circle

Does anyone know what today is?

Fri-yay!

Now, you might be thinking, "Why all the excitement? Fridays happen every week!"

Well, this Friday feels a little different because we're sharing a story that has been part of the Jewellers Vault workshop for quite some time - and we think our chapter in it has finally come to an end.

Some time ago, a client came to us with a very special inherited ring. It was a single band with a wide profile, and while she loved the sentimental value behind it, the style wasn't quite right for her. She wondered if it could be transformed into something she'd enjoy wearing every day.

The answer, of course, was yes.

Using the original gold, we carefully crafted two matching bands from the one inherited ring. They were slim, elegant, and designed to be delicate in appearance while remaining strong enough to stand the test of time. The client was thrilled with the result.

But as often happens with jewellery, tastes evolve.

After wearing the bands for some time, she realised she didn't actually want two identical rings. She loved the idea of having a matching pair, but wanted one band to be slightly wider than the other to create a little more visual interest.

So she came back.

Once again, we melted down the very same gold and started fresh. The matching bands were transformed into two new rings - similar, but beautifully different. This time, one was slightly wider, creating the perfect balance she had been searching for.

And she absolutely loved them.

One of the most wonderful things about reusing your own gold is that your jewellery story doesn't have to end with a single redesign. Your pieces can continue to evolve alongside you, reflecting your changing style while preserving the memories and sentiment that make them so special.

Jewellery isn't static. It grows with us, changes with us, and sometimes takes a few journeys before it becomes exactly what we're looking for.

And that's perfectly okay.

In fact, it's one of our favourite parts of what we do.

From Broken Jewellery to a Dream Bangle

Take a close look at the "before" photo. Notice the broken chains, worn-out pieces, and lonely single earrings? Most people have a collection just like this tucked away in the bottom of a jewellery box somewhere. Pieces that are too sentimental to throw away, but too damaged or incomplete to wear.

That was exactly the situation one of our clients found herself in.

With gold prices at record highs, she initially considered selling her old jewellery. Like many people, she thought turning those unused pieces into cash might be the smartest option. But after looking into it, she discovered that while she would receive some money for the gold, it wouldn't be nearly enough to purchase the wide gold bangle she had always dreamed of owning.

Then she learned about another option.

Instead of selling her gold, she could recycle it.

Working with our team at Jewellers Vault, we gathered together her collection of broken and unwanted jewellery and transformed it into something entirely new. The sentimental gold that had been sitting unused for years was melted down and given a second life as a stunning custom-made bangle.

The result was everything she had hoped for - a beautiful wide bangle, handcrafted to fit her perfectly and created at a fraction of the cost of buying a brand-new piece from scratch.

What was once a collection of forgotten jewellery became one of her favourite pieces to wear every day.

If you have broken jewellery, mismatched earrings, old rings, or pieces collecting dust in a drawer, you might be surprised by what they can become. Sometimes the jewellery you no longer wear is the perfect starting point for the jewellery you've always wanted.

At Jewellers Vault, we love helping clients unlock the hidden potential in their old gold and transform it into something truly special.

Myth or Fact? All Gemstones Are Suitable for Everyday Wear

When choosing a piece of jewellery, it's easy to fall in love with a gemstone based purely on its colour, sparkle, or sentimental meaning. But have you ever stopped to wonder whether every gemstone is designed to handle the demands of everyday life?

Some gemstones have survived for millions of years beneath the earth's surface, while others formed through delicate natural processes that make them truly unique. Yet despite their beauty, not all gemstones share the same characteristics when it comes to daily wear.

Think about everything your jewellery experiences in a typical day. Knocking against door handles. Washing your hands. Applying lotions and perfumes. Gardening. Exercising. Even simply reaching into your handbag can expose your jewellery to unexpected bumps and scrapes.

So here's today's question:

💎 MYTH OR FACT?
All gemstones are suitable for everyday wear.

What do you think?

Have a guess in the comments before checking with your favourite jeweller. We'd love to hear which gemstones you wear every day and whether they've stood the test of time.

Drop your answer below: Myth or Fact?

Sometimes, the things we loved years ago aren't quite the things we love today. That's true for fashion, hairstyles, home décor… and sometimes even jewellery.

After many wonderful years married to the love of her life, this client realised her tastes had evolved. Thankfully, the only thing she wanted to change was her wedding set!

As a returning client of Jewellers Vault, she was already familiar with the possibilities that come with custom jewellery design. She knew that when the time came to reimagine her engagement and eternity rings, she had a team ready to help bring her vision to life.

The best part? She arrived with a clear idea of exactly what she wanted. Armed with inspiration, excitement, and a design she absolutely loved, we worked closely with her to transform those ideas into a beautiful new reality.

A jewellery redesign is about more than creating something new - it's about honouring the memories and meaning of the original piece while crafting something that reflects who you are today. The diamonds still tell the same love story, but now they're showcased in a style that feels perfectly her.

We were thrilled to be part of this next chapter in her jewellery journey, and we hope the finished result is everything she imagined when she first walked through our doors.

After all, while styles may change over the years, true love never goes out of fashion.

Some pieces of jewellery are more than "just" jewellery.

They're the ring you wore every day for decades. The piece gifted by someone special. The item that holds memories you simply can't replace.

Sometimes clients come to us with a treasured piece that's seen better days. The gold has worn thin, repairs are no longer viable, and the jewellery has reached the point where continuing to patch it up would only delay the inevitable.

That's often when the panic sets in.

"But what am I going to do? I can't replace this."

The good news is that replacing it doesn't always mean changing it.

One of the most rewarding things we can do as jewellers is recreate a beloved piece by hand, using the original gold and gemstones. Every detail is carefully matched so the finished piece looks just like the ring you fell in love with all those years ago - only strong, secure, and ready for many more years of wear.

For this client, that wasn't the end of the story.

Once the ring had been remade, there was still some gold remaining. Rather than letting it sit unused, she decided to give it a new purpose. We handcrafted a pendant from the leftover gold and set a gemstone from a single earring that no longer had its partner.

What began as a worn-out ring became two meaningful pieces, each carrying the same memories and sentiment as the originals.

Sometimes preserving a story doesn't mean holding onto every scratch and worn edge. Sometimes it means giving those precious materials a new beginning while keeping the memories exactly where they belong.

Sometimes the best jewellery repairs aren't about fixing what's broken - they're about preventing a problem before it happens.

This client absolutely adored her bangle and wore it often, but over time she became increasingly aware of how easily it could open. She didn't want to stop wearing it, and she certainly didn't want to retire it to a jewellery box. Instead, she came up with a clever solution: add a safety chain across the opening!

The idea was simple. If the clasp ever popped open unexpectedly, the chain would act as a backup and stop the bangle from slipping off her wrist. Brilliant!

Unfortunately, her first attempt didn't quite work out as planned.

She took the bangle to another jeweller and had a safety chain added. Technically, the chain was there... but before long it had fallen off completely. Not broken. Not snapped. Just detached from the bangle altogether.

Frustrated and confused, she brought it to us to see if we could figure out what had happened.

The answer became obvious as soon as we examined the piece.

The safety chain itself wasn't the problem - it simply hadn't been given enough support where it joined the bangle. The attachment points needed to be stronger and better designed to withstand everyday wear.

Our solution was to create two sturdy loops that were securely attached to the bangle before fitting the safety chain. The chain is slightly more noticeable now, but the trade-off is well worth it. The joins are cleaner, stronger, and far more reliable.

Most importantly, our client can once again wear her favourite bangle with confidence, knowing that if the clasp ever decides to misbehave, there's a dependable backup in place.

Sometimes the smallest details make the biggest difference.

04/06/2026

We've all heard the sayings.

"Diamonds are forever."

"Diamonds are a girl's best friend."

"Diamonds are unbreakable."

Well... that last one isn't actually true.

Diamonds are incredibly tough and are the hardest natural material found on Earth, which is why they've become the ultimate symbol of enduring love. They can withstand everyday wear better than almost any other gemstone.

But there is one thing diamonds don't handle very well...

Fire.

Diamonds are made entirely of carbon. Under normal conditions, that's nothing to worry about. But when exposed to extremely high temperatures in the presence of oxygen, a diamond can actually burn away, turning into carbon dioxide gas.

It's not something you'll encounter while making a cup of tea or sitting around a campfire. It takes temperatures far beyond what most of us experience in everyday life. Still, it's fascinating to think that one of the toughest materials on Earth can literally disappear into thin air.

Nature has a funny way of reminding us that even the strongest things have their limits.

Did you already know this diamond fact, or have we just ruined the saying "diamonds are forever" for you?

We've all been there.

One day you look down and realise an earring is missing. You retrace your steps, check the bathroom floor, the car, the bedside table... but it's gone. Suddenly you're left with one beautiful earring and no matching partner.

For many people, that lonely earring ends up forgotten in a jewellery box. But not for this client.

She already knew that at Jewellers Vault, we love giving old jewellery a new purpose. Over the years we'd helped her transform pieces she no longer wore, and she even had a small gold bar made from leftover gold from previous projects waiting for its next chapter.

So when she lost one of her earrings, she didn't see a problem - she saw an opportunity.

Together, we transformed the remaining earring into a stunning pendant, combining sentimental materials she already owned with a design she could wear and enjoy every day.

What was once a lonely single earring is now a beautiful piece with a whole new life and a whole new story.

Sometimes jewellery doesn't have to stay what it was. Sometimes the best pieces are the ones that evolve alongside us.

Have you got a single earring tucked away in a drawer somewhere? Maybe it's waiting for its next chapter too.
