In Olivia’s rencent substack, she discusses the making of the Frost in Arcadia collection, such as the Maillon Chain, where individual link is first carved by hand in wax before being cast, assembled, and finished manually.

A bespoke engagement ring with a 1.01ct emerald cut champagne diamond in a soft C2 tone, set in 18k yellow gold. The elongated shape of the stone paired naturally with a slightly tapered band and elevated claw setting, allowing the gold beneath the diamond to become part of the overall composition rather than disappear into it.
The ring was hand carved in wax over a number of weeks before being cast and stone set in Florence by generational jewellers. We kept the finish refined while allowing subtle traces of the carving process to remain visible within the final piece.

This commission came together through a series of consultations with the client, who was drawn to Renaissance jewellery and wanted something that felt architectural, heirloom-like, and understated at the same time. A very enjoyable piece to bring into form.

On Little Edie’s Brooch

The laurel and flower brooch worn by Edith “Little Edie” Bouvier Beale has a difficult to trace history. This, despite being both very closely associated with her, and prominently featured in photographs and film capturing the latter half of her life. Some speculation is possible: the four inch-long, gold-toned piece is likely to have been Demi-Fine or “costume” jewellery, rather than Fine. Moreover, it appears to have been originally designed in or around the 1930s.

Some fans of the Grey Gardens documentary have pointed out that due to Little Edie’s frequent behind-the-scenes clothing changes, keeping the continuity of the film from scene to scene was complex. They conjectured that she may have been asked by the filmmakers to limit her accessories to one piece, in order to simplify an already complex editing process.

After the piece became a representative component of Little Edie’s “revolutionary costumes” a number of detailed replicas have been made, including for an HBO show and a Broadway musical. But having passed from the hands of Big Edie (who is pictured wearing it in a photo published in the San Francisco Chronicle, also attached to a headscarf) to Little Edie, it has transformed into a truly heirloom piece. The brooch has reportedly come into the possession of a third generation of Beale women, Little Edie’s grand-nieces, Maria and Tatiana Beale.

I’ve been thinking a lot about what sits behind the work coming out of Istanbul lately, and my most recent round of samples for the fine collection. Not just the objects themselves, but the longer histories, habits of making, and ways of thinking about beauty that influence them.

There is something often described as Ottoman Empire character. At its core, it’s about plurality. The empire was never built from a single voice or a single hand. You might have a master from Tabriz, another from Khorasan, another from Armenia. Different techniques, materials, and visual languages existing side by side. That collision of knowledge is what formed Ottoman taste. It wasn’t about purity. It was about accumulation.

Viriditas, medieval Latin for divine vitality, is expressed in the upturned design of the raised topaz stone on this ring, which shimmers with light while paradoxically frozen in place. For the engagement ring finger, or simply as a classic adornment. Stone and metals used are customisable upon request.

The Viriditas Ring is a playful take on the solitaire engagement ring. It features a domed gold band with a bezel set clear topaz. Available in Solid Gold and Platinum.

Frost in Arcadia is heralded by the lightness of a cool breeze which complements the warmth of bare skin. This zephyr carries upon it the petals of flowers wrought in enamel of pale white, and royal, ice-blue. As the wind moves the stems of plants, light and shade dance over frost. Here too, white topaz and sapphire sparkle like frozen hoar crystals in gold and silver rings.

Fresh Fine jewellery that is simple enough to be plucked with ease from this garden of delights, yet handcrafted from precious materials whose permanence ensures that what begins as a delightful indulgence becomes something to wear for a lifetime.

A cool breeze moves through a garden where metal and enamel catch the shifting light of morning frost. Petals appear in pale white and deep sapphire blue, while white topaz and sapphire glint like crystals forming along a silver stem.

Carnelian ring with diamonds

The Orrery ring in 18k yellow gold with a cabochon cut carnelian, cut to size in our studio in Istanbul. Each bauble surrounding the carnelian is set with a white diamond, adding points of light around the central stone.
This piece came to life through an online consultation with the couple, who had a clear vision for the ring, and the ancient feeling carnelian carries. It was a real pleasure to work through the design together and bring their idea into form.
