Ruby and the Fox is a Jewellery and accessory business run by artist, Kate Finnigan from her home studio in East Maitland, NSW. Named after her two rescue dogs, Ruby (the boxer x) and Lando (AKA the Fox, for his fox like looks), Ruby and the fox started out of Kate’s passion for jewellery and accessories. Whilst completing her Certificate IV in Visual Arts (Ceramics) Kate found herself wanting to make Jewellery and small objects as the basis for her TAFE projects. Further on Kate realised that her passions were for functional pieces and wearable art and with nature as the inspiration for most of her work. Ruby and the Fox pieces are made as an extension of the bodies beauty and are individually handcrafted to cross the gap between nature and the human body. Kate’s latest work, which was formed during her Bachelor Studies through TAFE Brisbane and the University of Canberra is inspired by the hexagon shape. The pieces are made from upcycled wood veneer, resin and tiny hinges, adding a sustainability aspect to her work. Her latest project has been designing a range of functional Jewellery and accessory boards. More recently, Kate has been exploring the link between her art and spirituality and using this as inspiration for her current work.
