To our valued customers and public
On Wed 17 Dec at approx 3am we were the victims of a break and enter robbery at the premises. This attack was pre-meditated, delibertate and planned. There were two adult males we believe who dressed for the crime with balaclavas and a bag full of tools and crowbar - accessed the building via the back carpark gates and smashed through one of our two glass doors. They stayed going in and out for a few minutes in a mad panic and rush as the alarm was activated and then left.
We would like to re-assure you that to the best of our knowledge, they did not steal anything of any significant value and did not gain access to the safes or workshop but did force their way into our locked office. No stock was taken, and no customer's jewellery incl valuations, watches or anything else was taken and is still safe and sound. We also have very sound insurance for such an event.
We quickly burst into action protecting and guarding the store in person and successfully re-opening the same day only for drop offs and pickups with no jewellery out until our smashed glass door had been replaced within a few hours. David's quick thinking had it boarded up with thick cardboard for the morning, and we would like to thank our local emergency glass teams for their rapid responses to our emergency. We are still clearing glass from the area but most has been removed.
The police have our full infrared high definition security footage from multiple store positions and forensics have also been active at the store.
Within our industry these events are part of the nature of the beast and in nearly 16 years - this is the first successful B&E on our business. We have strict policies and procedures in relation to the movement of jewellery in and out of the store and other security measures which really paid off this week. We made it as hard as possible for these persons to gain anything from their futile efforts in taking on a jeweller with much more security then a normal business and will continue to make changes to our security measures into the future.
To our knowledge the only things taken that we can notice clearly were two bags of two wrapped present packages (girls toys and shirt) for my nieces from Kmart Eaton, two empty ring boxes, and our G/P silver display pad of rings from one of our suppliers although we are still checking what we can.
As soon as we are able we will be issuing our images or video to help assist the public to help the police with our case so please help share if you can as this is a very serious crime.
We are still coming to terms with the event in personal terms and the violation to our small business at this time of year. On behalf of David and myself, we would like to thank our family, friends and our customers for their wonderful response and support during this difficult time before Christmas but we are strong and will get back into the swing of things like it never even happened.
WE ARE OPEN and TRADING AS NORMAL.
