Gold sheen coral from the Tasman rise , a sea mount south of Tasmania . This coral and a bunch of other rare deep water tree corals were caught by orange roughy fishermen in the 1980s . I was cutting a piece of this coral about ten years ago when I suddenly collapsed with bad chest pains , it emits a gas when sanded and I reacted badly to it . It is beautiful material with a sheen not unlike opals and id love to use it in our jewellery but ive never cut it again after my rather unpleasant experience .

Good Sapphire crystals are rare , most sapphires are found river worn , naturally tumbled by rivers over millions of years . Sri Lanka produces the worlds best Sapphire crystals , many are sharp and lustrous like the ones in the photo that we bought off miners 25 years ago in Ratnapura .
