Before you see us in the sky… Every flight starts well before the balloon leaves the ground.

The morning starts early. While most of the world is still waking up, there’s already plenty happening on the ground.

Then the balloon comes to life. From the first stages of setup to the first burst of heat, watching the balloon take shape is all part of the experience.

And you get to watch it all come together. From the first stages of setup to the balloon rising above you, it’s all part of the morning.

Then comes the moment you’ve been waiting for. Everything is ready. The balloon is up. Time to head into the sky.

And suddenly, you’re here. Above the countryside, watching Greater Brisbane wake up below!

Some stories start with a plan. Graeme’s started a little differently.

Back in 1990, while travelling through Europe, he found himself helping a balloon crew in the Alsace region of France. What started as an unexpected opportunity quickly turned into a love of ballooning and eventually, a career that has taken him across three continents.

More than 34 years later, Graeme is still flying, still sharing stories, and still finding new reasons to love the view from above.

Today, every Floating Images flight is personally flown by Graeme, bringing decades of experience and a deep knowledge of the Greater Brisbane region to every morning in the sky.

Some things change over the years. The love of ballooning isn’t one of them!

You have seen us on the road and flying overhead for months, maybe years. You have always wondered how you could be more involved and part of the Floating Images team!

An opportunity has arisen ........ if .....you ...... enjoy .......

Early mornings. Finished before your day really begins.

While most of the region is still waking up, a small team is already out in open paddocks preparing hot air balloons for flight.
It’s calm, outdoors, and different every morning. You’re part of a coordinated ground team helping launch and recover balloons as they fly over the Ipswich region.

We are currently seeking 1–2 Casual Driver & Balloon Ground Support Crew members to join Floating Images Hot Air Balloon Flights.

This role suits people who enjoy being active in the early part of the day, prefer practical outdoor work, and like being part of a small, reliable team with a clear routine.
What the role involves:
• Driving manual 4WD vehicles with long trailers
• Assisting with balloon setup, inflation, pack-down and recovery
• Transporting passengers and interacting in a professional, calm manner
• Working alongside the pilot and team to ensure safe, smooth flight operations
• Supporting ground operations across Ipswich and surrounding Somerset & Scenic Rim regions
What you need to bring:
• Current Australian manual driver’s licence (essential)
• Confidence driving a manual 4WD and towing a trailer
• Physical capability for active outdoor work and lifting
• Reliability, punctuality, and ability to follow procedures
• Ability to work independently once trained
• A proactive, aware approach to changing ground conditions
• Respectful communication with passengers and landowners
• Ability to meet aviation Drug & Alcohol (DAMP) requirements
• Ability to comply with fatigue management requirements (early morning roster, no night shift commitments prior)
• Local knowledge of the Ipswich region and its roads is an advantage, helping ensure smooth operations.
Work details:
• Casual role
• Early morning starts (approximately 4:00am–6:00am depending on season - meeting 45 minutes prior to sunrise)
• Shifts typically 3–4 hours, finishing mid-morning
• 3–5 days per week depending on weather and flight schedules - weekday & weekend options and be available school holidays.
• Based in Ipswich
Training is provided on the ground as part of the team.
