Johnny The Fox's 50 singles you must listen to (and possibly buy from JTF) before you die...in no particular order, and for no other reason than Johnny sucks at social media and wants to boost his following prior to his first book being published this winter!
#16: Cheezcake - Unfairest (1999)
Cheezcake were an all too brief burst of awesomeness during the late 90's/early noughties Aussie hard rock scene. Their unique brand of high energy hip-hop infused nu-metal incorporated elements of psych and grunge, delivering a super tasty ear assault to anyone lucky enough to hear their debut album or catch them live. Comparisons were made to Rage Against The Machine, with several tracks being as good as anything the L.A. rap-metal icons recorded.
Unfairest is the slowest paced track on the album but also the most menacing. The tone of the song, with its brilliant dance between light and heavy, is reminiscent of Rooster by Alice In Chains, but without the heroin-esque whining (sorry Layne).
Drum prodigy Dave Amphlett was only in idle on Unfairest, but the whole album is worth a listen for the drumming alone. There's obvious bias in me saying this as he's my cousin, but the man's drumming was, and still is, beyond insane. These days he keeps time for Gold Coast funk outfit Heavy Wax.
If you're on a mission to take down totalitarianism, fascism and the new world order, the brooding menace of Unfairest will get you into Klaus Schwab-slapping mood quicksmart.
