This week we celebrated two incredibly special members of our Matthews Jewellers family 🤍 Jane and Claudia from our Kotara team are leaving us shortly for their next adventures.

Jane has been a pivotal part of our Kotara store for the past 6 years, and we are going to miss her smiling face, cheeky demeanour, and the endless giggles she always brought to the team. At the end of June, Jane will be retiring alongside her husband Shane, with plans to travel Australia and attend as many rock concerts as possible, dancing their way around the country ✨

We also say goodbye to our Gen Z “everything” girl, Claudia. Over the past 2 years, Claudia has become such an important part of our team, and we truly don’t know what we’ll do without her. Claudia has recently completed her degree and is now moving to Sydney to begin the next chapter in her career. While we’re incredibly proud of her, we are equally sad to be losing such a valued team member.

Claudia’s last day is this Sunday, and Jane’s final day with us will be at the end of June. Make sure you stop by our Kotara store and show them both some love before they begin their next adventures 🤍

Natural Emeralds have always been a favourite of ours. A stone where inclusions are loved for their character and where the colour can’t quite be replicated in another gemstone 💚

The Asscher cut is one of the most distinctive diamond shapes in the world and admired for its clean symmetry, dramatic depth, and hall-of-mirrors effect.

Originally developed in 1902 by the Asscher family of Amsterdam, this iconic cut quickly became a symbol of Art Deco design and timeless sophistication. The Asscher brothers were renowned diamond cutters, and their innovative technique changed the diamond world forever.

There are three important things to know before buying an Asscher cut diamond:

1. Unlike brilliant cuts, Asscher diamonds feature step-cut facets, meaning they prioritise clarity and structure over sparkle. Because of these large open facets, inclusions and internal characteristics are far more visible, making clarity incredibly important when selecting an Asscher cut diamond. We often recommend choosing a higher clarity grade to ensure the stone appears clean and crisp to the eye.

2. There are two variations of the cut — the Standard Asscher and the Royal Asscher. The Royal Asscher is a patented version developed by the Asscher family, featuring additional facets designed to create more brilliance and light performance while maintaining the signature geometric look. It comes down purely to personal preference when choosing between the two.

3. They face up smaller than other cuts. These diamonds are cut deeper to achieve their distinctive concentric facet pattern and dramatic visual depth. Because of this, they often face up smaller than other diamond shapes of the same carat weight.
