✨ Beading a cabochon 🪡 Part 2✨ Last night on the Bead Society of Victoria weekly UFO (Unfinished Object) Zoom call, I kept working on my beaded cabochon. Managed to get the second cup chain row stitched on, and the backing felt glued in place. The final step will be adding a row of Druk beads. Almost there!

✨ Beading a cabochon 🪡 Part 1 ✨ Today, I headed to the Bead Society of Victoria Bead Expo to learn a new skill: how to bead a cabochon! Angie from Chicky Babe's Beads & Jewellery was great at explaining the technique — I managed to get it half-finished by the end of the workshop. This one is going to be a foxy fridge magnet. Can’t wait to finish it 🦊

✨ Op Shop Fossicking Finds ✨ This is an interesting one because I have no idea what it is! I came across this *heavy* metallic pendant at Salvos Stores ❤️ It has a very subtle oil slick sheen to it, and looks quite organic — but has it just been cleverly made? A fellow jewellery student thinks it’s cast metal with a coating, while my teacher was itching to cut it open to work it out 🤣 Whatever it is, it’ll be fun to work out how to transform it into a new piece with this — did I mention *heavy* — feature pendant. What do you think it could be?

✨ Op Shop Fossicking Finds ✨ I’m getting into the fun of finding treasures in op shops. I’d love to upcycle some preloved beads and gems into new jewels. So when I recently had some spare time, I went for a fossick… Also, I don’t like being on camera 📷 can you tell? 😫🤣

Known as the finest uncut opal in existence, I was recently mesmerised by the ‘Fire of Australia’. On display at South Australian Museum, it’s valued at almost $900,000 and weighs 988 grams. It’s among the spectacular collection in the Minerals and Meteorites Gallery ✨ I’ll be sharing more clips of my favourite pieces (read: all of them) and may have had to use husband’s phone because I ran out of space on mine to capture them all… Highly recommend visiting when you’re next in Adelaide✨

Yesterday, I tried pearl knotting for the first time! Big thanks to Clara at Claw Creative and Ivy at Ivy Gao Jewellery for showing me the ropes (silk 🤣) ✨ I got to choose from a lovely selection of freshwater pearls and gemstones (I loved the purple chalcedony to accent the pearls). It also includes a delicious selection of nibbles to enjoy while making. What I learnt? Knotting necklaces is much harder than it looks. As a perfectionist, it’s going to take me some time and practice to get to the standard I want to achieve… but that’s what learning is all about ✨ Highly recommend!
