Yarrabing Wetland Reserve Wetlands Yarrabing Wetland Reserve is located at the end of Magnolia St, Wantirna. Along the Dandenong Creek Bike trail. The reserve is just under 2 hectares.

Until the 1960s Dandenong Creek used to snake twice up and down this reserve before it was replaced by a straight channel. In the last 10 years the Knox City Council in conjunction with The First Friends of Dandenong Creek and Melbourne water turned the depression that was left behind back into a wetland area. The street run off all runs into the wetlands area. In the wetlands there are many different water birds that come and visit through out the year. There is also some significant Manna Gums (Eucalyptus viminalis) that are still thriving. Along with understory trees like silver wattle (Acacia dealbata) as well as a few swamp paperbark (Melaleuca ericifolia).

Knox Council planned for all of its passenger pool vehicle fleet to be EVs by 2025.

Did they do it? No idea! 🤷‍♀️🤷‍♂️

But after 5 years, they're now proposing to develop a Fleet Transition Plan...

Are ratepayer funds being wasted on record petrol & diesel prices when they could be running much cheaper EVs?? 💰💰

None of their Progress Reports disclose total vehicles, or how many are remaining to be replaced and using expensive fuels. ⛽💰

There is little things everyday we can do to help keep these species alive.

Reduce waste, put your garbage in the bin not on the ground, recycle as much as you can, using chemicals sparingly ( for example rodent baits and weeds herbicides.

Re-assess chopping down a tree completely, maybe a reduction prune or turn it into a habitat tree. Get a few quotes and arborists to assess, as a lot a rogues and will chop down a perfectly healthy tree.

Its wattle season, Wattle Day was yesterday, but everyday for the next few months should be wattle day!!!

Victorian National Parks Association are hosting Walk and talk in the Dandenong Ranges:

"Saturday, 16 May | 10:30 am - 1:00 pm

Join VNPA, local filmmaker Lewi Haskins and local ecologist Alex Maisey for a guided walk and talk in the Dandenong Ranges National Park. We’ll visit an area hit by a windstorm in 2021, talk about their recovery and how some areas are being smashed by loophole logging.

Since 2021, VNPA and local community groups have been monitoring the recovery of forests and wildlife in the Dandenong Ranges National Park after a windstorm in 2021. Fallen trees, knocked over by the storm, are doing exactly what they should, feeding fungi, holding moisture and rebuilding habitat.

But in recent weeks, Forest Fire Management Victoria have been ripping out fallen trees with heavy machinery, damaging tree ferns and living trees in the process. The work is guided by outdated info rather than up-to-date science. We’ve been working with filmmaker Lewi Haskins to document what’s happening on the ground.
