Today I wanted to share one of my favourite places to feel at home, far from home ☕️
Tucked away in a quiet South Yarra street, The Lawson Grove Shop isn’t just a café, it’s a vibe and an amazing story. Designed in the 1930s by architect Howard Ratcliff Lawson, the space was originally imagined as a communal kitchen for the Art Deco apartment building it sits within (a bold idea at the time). Since, the space has kept its soul. You still feel it: the European, apartment-style warmth, the sense of neighbourhood, the ease of lingering. Bistro chairs lining the gently winding street, leafy trees overhead, sunlight spilling onto the tables... all that makes you want to stay longer than planned.
The coffee is always spot on, brunch is done simply but brilliantly, and there’s something grounding about sitting here knowing this place was built for people to gather. If you’re in Melbourne, this hidden gem is worth seeking out.
