Would you pay more for Burma origin?

I wanted to share this special GIA-certified unheated blue sapphire from Sri Lanka — a gemstone that the GIA lab identified as being from Burma.

This is exactly why it’s so important not to be carried away by paying significantly more simply for the stated origin of a gemstone.

Even leading labs such as GIA cannot offer absolute certainty when it comes to origin identification. Gemmologists study the internal characteristics of a stone and provide an expert opinion based on similarities observed in gemstones from different regions.

Burma origin sapphires in particular have historically attracted a premium price point. However, there are areas in Sri Lanka that produce sapphires with remarkably similar characteristics to those found in Burma.

This sapphire is true and true from the prestigious mines of Sri Lanka, and that is exactly how we represent it — honestly and transparently.

Gemstones are not financial investments and therefore at the end of the day, the beauty, rarity, and integrity of the gemstone itself should always matter when choosing your special gemstone.
