This pair of sterling silver earrings has the top half embossed and the bottom half is acid etched. I love the visual depth you can achieve using these techniques, especially when the silver is blackened by oxidizing with very smelly liver of sulphur (which smells like it came from the bowels of hell).

I finally finished something after a very long dry spell.
Sometimes I can’t find the oomph it takes to get into the studio and be creative. I used to worry about it, but now I’m comfortable with the periods of quiet because I know I’ll eventually get back into the rhythm of making.
I have a few more pieces that I’m now itching to finish, so it all comes good eventually.

I can’t believe that 2025 is nearly over and this weekend will be my last show of the year!!

I’ll be at the Tramsheds with a selection of my cloisonné enamel and silver jewellery.

November 29-20, 10am-4pm.

There will be lots of very talented craftspeople exhibiting with something for everyone.

Here’s a combination brooch/pendant made for the exhibition next week.
The owl is made using the sgraffito technique- 24k gold fused over opaque enamel, and then painstakingly scratched away to reveal the owl. There are somewhere between 7-10 firings in this piece.

I’ve been getting ready for annual Christmas exhibition.
Champleve enamel earrings are almost finished. This is a very time consuming technique, each stage builds on the next and if one step isn’t perfect the whole thing fails. So far everything has gone to plan and I’m happy!!
The most time consuming part of this process, apart from building the framework, is grinding back the enamel without putting big gouges in the silver and getting a mirror finish. It takes a long time but it’s worth it!
