Over, under, over, under… 🧵

Weaving is a living cultural practice for many First Nations communities, and it’s also brilliant for little hands. Our Aboriginal Weaving & Threading Set builds fine motor skills, patterning, focus and hand–eye coordination. It also opens up conversations about the weavers and fibres connected to your local Country.

Programming tip: Invite a local Elder or weaver, or explore weaving from your local Nation, alongside the set.

✔️ Supports EYLF Outcomes 2, 3, 4 & 5
✔️ Authentic artwork by Russell Brown, Mara & Garawa
✔️ Made with cultural integrity and authenticity by a Supply Nation-registered business

Educators, how do you bring local First Nations knowledge into your fine motor play? Tell us below 👇

He's here 🐸 Guliya – The Greedy Frog Sensory Tray is now available to everyone!

Made to match the much-loved Aboriginal story of Tiddalick, the frog who drank all the water, Guliya invites little learners to retell, rebuild and play through a story about greed, sharing and caring for water, with their hands, not just their ears.

Our ECA delegates got first pick and they nearly cleared us out. Now it's your turn.

✔️ Made from earth friendly eco-PLA

Indigenous Business Month: the bit you don't usually see 🖤💛❤️

Russell's artwork starting on canvas. Ideas discussed over at the kitchen table. Orders packed by hand on Bundjalung Country and sent to classrooms all over Australia.

We're a small, majority Aboriginal-owned family business, and every resource carries that, Russell's story as a Garawa and Mara man, the artists we collaborate with, Clare's expertise in Aboriginal education and curriculum and the educators who trust us to get it right.

This month's theme is Local and Connected. When you buy from a First Nations business, the money stays connected too, to family, to artists, to community.

Who's a First Nations business you love buying from? Tag them below, let's share the love, we will go first!

Yarning Corner 🌊 National Water Week starts tomorrow, and this year's theme, Water Connects Everything, is something First Nations peoples have understood for a very long time.

For tens of thousands of years, knowing where water is, and how to care for it, has meant everything. Waterholes, soaks and rockholes were known, named and looked after, and that knowledge was carried in story, song and Country itself so the next generation would always find their way to water.

It's why so many of our stories are water stories, including the one behind our newest release. More on that this week 🐸

A question for your class: where does OUR water come from, and who cared for it before us?

Four days, hundreds of conversations, and one very greedy frog 🐸

Thank you to every educator who stopped by Booth 20 at the ECA National Conference in Naarm. The questions you asked, the stories you shared about your services and your kids, and the way faces lit up when you met Guliya, that's what keeps us going.

And the moment you've been waiting for: our MEGA $500 worth of resources Giveaway winner is Avureen from Goodstart 🎉 We'll be in touch

If you found us at the conference and you're new here, welcome. You've joined a community of educators who want to do this work properly, one learning space at a time.

Were you at ECA? Tell us your highlight below 👇

A great read thanks to The Koori Curriculum

Every week, educators ask us the same question: "How do I know if this resource is authentic?"

It's a fair question.

Walk into any educational supplier, browse online or search for "Aboriginal resources" and you'll be met with hundreds of products featuring dot paintings, boomerangs, native animals and earthy colour palettes.

Some have been created by Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people.

Many have not.

The challenge is that authenticity isn't something you can recognise from the cover of a book or the artwork on a box. It requires us to look deeper. Because cultural authenticity isn't about appearance.

It's about relationships, authorship, permission, integrity and accountability.

October marks the start of Indigenous Business Month, and this year’s theme, Local and Connected, really resonates with us.

Songlines has always been about more than resources. It’s about connection, to culture, Country, community, our artists and collaborators, and the educators who trust us to bring authentic First Nations perspectives into their learning spaces.

As a small family business, so much of what we do happens right here, from Russell’s artwork and our ideas around the kitchen table, to making, packing and sending our resources across Australia.

We’re incredibly proud of what we’ve built, but even more proud of the connections we’ve made along the way and the impact those connections can have on the next generation.

Here’s to staying local, connected and grounded in culture. 🖤💛❤️
