It’s not all jewellery. This is a branding iron for a woodworker. Starting with the design from the client, I built a 3D CAD model. Two pieces were made. The first had components laser cut from stainless steel and welded together. The second was 3D printed in bronze. I also had a smaller piece printed but it had failures in the print. Plenty of test burns to find an optimum temperature with a final example showing success.

Wedding rings. Timber and metal. White gold and ancient red gum. This timber has been naturally “pickled”, so to speak, sitting at the bottom of a billabong or buried in river sand for thousands of years in some cases. Even so, it still behaves like timber.
These were a challenge and fun to make. A one piece ring of timber was cut and sandwiched between gold rings, soldered and with burnished edges as required to hold the pieces together. Keen to get a photo so an ordinary inside polish.
