Pearl matching can be surprisingly time-consuming. 🤍

Look at these pairs — they were already supposed to be matched, but when I look closely, I just can’t accept them.

The shape is different.
The size is different.
The luster is different.
And sometimes, even a slightly different shade of colour is enough to make the pair look mismatched.

Not a single pair in this batch is up to my standard.

So what do I do? I go through them again, repair and re-match where I can, and sometimes some pearls can only be used for pendants or other designs.

This is one of the things people don’t always see when they buy pearl earrings.

A beautiful pair of earrings isn’t simply two pearls put together. Finding two pearls that work beautifully as a pair takes time, patience and a very good eye.

So next time you see a perfectly matched pair of pearl earrings, remember — there can be quite a bit of work behind those two little pearls. 🤍

✨ Meet the Edison Pearl — Big, Beautiful & Surprisingly Accessible ✨

If you love the size and presence of South Sea pearls, but not the price tag, Edison pearls are definitely worth discovering.

Unlike traditional freshwater pearl cultivation, Edison pearls are nucleated freshwater pearls, with one large pearl cultivated inside each shell rather than producing many smaller pearls. This allows them to grow to impressive sizes, often 12mm+, with beautiful round shapes and exceptional lustre.

A pearl of this size, shape and lustre in a comparable South Sea pearl could easily cost AUD $1,000–$2,000+ for the pearl itself.

An Edison freshwater pearl of similar size and quality can be around one-third to one-quarter of the price.
