There were 13 Powderbark ponies competing across 4 days at the 2025 Perth Royal Show in Led, Ridden, Fancy Dress, Showjumping and Games classes. Click through the photos for more details on these ponies. We were particularly pleased to see how good the Connemara Pony entries have been, both this year and last year. Powderbark Stud have supported and competed at the Royal with our Connemara Ponies consistently for YEARS so that the classes would be maintained in the Show program, ensuring that new breeders and new owners would still have the opportunity to show at the Royal in the future… so to see new breeders and exhibitors enter this year feels like our years of supporting the Royal are starting to pay off!

We had a memorable WA APSB Stud Show recently, with an astonishing 15 Powderbark ponies competing over the weekend (11 pure bred Connemaras and 4 part breds). It was amazing for us to see ponies from across the 20+ years of our purebred Connemara breeding program in the ring at the same time and representing 6 different stallions: Abbeyleix Finbar (IMP Ire), Glenormiston Fibber McGee, Glenormiston Dundrum, Frederiksminde Hazy Cavalier (IMP Den), Tralee Little Piper and Sternbergs Lenaro (IMP Ger). The show was topped off with the 12yo Connemara gelding (and one of our virtual stallions we have via AI), Powderbark Hazy Julemand, becoming the first Connemara Pony in the 48-year history of the WA Stud Show to win the overall Champion of Champions Led Pure Bred Pony award.

Thank you to our clients who attended and for presenting their ponies so well, the WA APSB Committee, marshals and stewards for a great show, the sponsors for the super prizes and to Ruth for her help on the Saturday morning. In addition, after the frustration and disappointment of never getting any photos uploaded from the ring photographer at last year’s Perth Royal Show, an even bigger thank you goes to the photographers (Jan, Cheryl and Jackie) who went above and beyond for us over the weekend- we managed to get it down to 34 photos for this post, from the many more that we purchased!

Congratulations to 9yo Lucy and 15yo purebred Connemara mare, Powderbark Aoife (Glenormiston Dundrum x Powderbark Rose-SOD Glenormiston Fibber McGee), who successfully completed 3 x 20km endurance rides at WAERA’s Easter Marathon event last weekend. Aoife is enjoying her latest career as a child’s performance pony, after being a super broodmare for us as well as Carlisle’s riding pony. Photo shared with permission ❤️

Our latest foal was born yesterday morning at dawn- a bay going grey c**t by Sternbergs Lenaro (IMP Ger) and out of Powderbark Anibel (Glenormiston Dundrum x Powderbark Rose). Trying to get a photo of him to post on here wasn't that easy: he was far too busy exploring and investigating everything and anything, which included licking the camera 😆 This guy is going to be fun, just like his full brothers, Pb O'Malley and Pb Flynn. 17 years ago we bred our first Arabian Pony, and on Sunday evening we were thrilled to welcome our second- a beautiful bay Arabian Pony / Part Connemara filly by Glenormiston Dundrum and out of our Crabbet mare, Roswa Park Charlotte (Monarch Lodge Impressive x Charlotte Gray). We haven't been able to do our main Perth Royal Show post with results yet as the APSB ring photos are still to be uploaded. In the meantime, here is a super photo another photographer managed to get of the youngest pony we've ever taken to the Royal: 6 month old weanling c**t, Powderbark Gillespie (Sternbergs Lenaro (IMP Ger) x Glenormiston Hazy Aurora-SOD Frederiksminde Hazy Cavalier (IMP Den)), seen here after being sashed Champion Connemara Stallion or C**t. We are really impressed with how Gillespie handled everything, from the show training to how he performed in the ring as well as the chaos that is the Royal Show generally, and we are running him on as a stallion prospect. Our first part-bred Connemara foal for the season arrived last night at the very respectable time of 8.30pm. A very tall and elegant c**t by Sternbergs Lenaro (IMP Ger) and out of the lovely mare Hahei Sid (Kemill Hill Skipcello x Carnatic), this guy has performance gelding written all over him! We ambitiously entered 4 Connemaras and 1 Shetland for this year’s Perth Royal Show and what a show it was, even with a complicated and less than ideal lead-up! There were 9 Connemaras entered in total (all Powderbarks) and it was wonderful to see all 9 in attendance- well done to our clients for getting there and presenting their ponies so well.

After a lovely morning showing, we were thrilled to be announced as the most successful pony exhibitor across all the APSB and Welsh sections and breeds, winning the TS Cowcher Memorial Perpetual Trophy. Thank you to everyone who helped us across the day, especially Daina, Sharla and Gemma with the pony prep and showing, Bec Caslick, Christie-Lyn, and Mike for feeding the menagerie at the farm while we were away. Our 18 year old stallion, Glenormiston Dundrum (Castle Baron (IMP Ire)x Glenormiston Rosmara-SOD Oxenholm Gideon (IMP Den)) is having a wonderful time representing the Connemara Pony in the Heritage & Rare Breeds section of the Animal Nursery at the Perth Royal Show. He is there for all 8 days of the Show, and we’re not sure how we will entertain him when he comes back home!

A new generation from our cherished tail-female line here (the bottom mare line in a pedigree), which goes back to Roundstone Lass (Rusheen Blackbird-Kilbricken Pride-Ardnasillagh Treasure-Oxenholm Tiffany-Glenormiston Fiona-Powderbark Eithne), arrived overnight! A beautiful, strong and correct bay (going grey) charismatic filly by Sternbergs Lenaro (IMP Ger) and out of Powderbark Eithne. Introducing Powderbark Ailis 💕
