The Assumption of the Blessed Virgin Mary, celebrated every year on August 15, is one of the most important feast days in the Catholic Church.
It celebrates the Catholic belief that at the end of Maryβs earthly life, God took her body and soul into Heaven. In other words, Mary did not remain in the grave; she was brought into the glory of Heaven.
πΉ What does the Assumption mean?
1. Mary is with God in Heaven
The feast celebrates Maryβs special participation in the glory of her Son, Jesus.
2. It gives us hope
Maryβs Assumption points toward the promise of resurrection and eternal life for all who follow Christ.
3. Mary is our Mother and example
Her life of faith, humility, obedience, and trust in God gives Christians an example to follow.
4. It points us to Jesus
The celebration is ultimately about Godβs grace and the victory of Christ over sin and death.
π The simple message of August 15:
Mary was faithful to God throughout her life, and God brought her into heavenly glory. Her Assumption reminds us that Heaven is our ultimate hope too.
πΉ βHoly Mary, Mother of God, pray for us sinners, now and at the hour of our death. Amen.β
