Album focus time! For me Jan Dewulf will always be connected to diskonnekted first. Sorry Jan a sentence in and I already mentioned the unmentionable.
I always liked Mildreda, mostly because I think Jan is a very talented and underrated producer/musician. And talent always shines through. But then came Realities. The Mildreda album that even for me is on par with the best of the Diskonnekted. To put that into context - Diskonnekted played at my own wedding despite the project being dead and buried by then.
But on this one some of the shadow of that project is casting a bit less long. Realities is a stunning album. Far more than the sum of its parts. Every track, including the 'reality check' interludes can stand on its own as a masterpiece in dark electronics. And somehow the entire album still manages to add to this. There's a flow through it that reminds me of the best prog rock concept albums.
Vocally Jan sneers, sings and sounds a lot more accomplished than on any of his past albums. And even though the tracks are layered, complex and never straightforward choruses and verses still stick to my brain and will pop up randomly. To me this is one of the highest compliments I can give a song or an album. It stays with me and I welcome it in at every opportunity.
I can not recommend you check this one out enough. In a year of stellar albums (Mind.in.a.box, Laibach, Slayyyter ...) this one is a definite contender for album of the year.

And here's the weekly mix again! A bit quieter in new releases this week but that just means I can catch up on some of the music I still had left from the last few weeks as well! A lot of really good new tracks in this one as well. Would love to hear everyone's favourites!

I recently posted about a change I implemented in the way I curate the music for my mix. I created a folder with 25 tracks from this year that I can play every week as long as they're in the folder. If I want a new one in there one has to go. I figured it was time to showcase some of these tracks outside the mixes themselves. Starting off with the most recent one I put in the folder: Are you ready by Our Graves. Don't worry if you don't know this project yet - I didn't either until he graciously sent me a code for this album - but you should. His latest album (see picture) is a whole lot of fun. Quality Dark Electro/Aggrotech with a playful nature and a lot of catchy tunes. Are you ready stands out with its 'Party at the gates of hell' cheesy chorus. I love when a track makes me want to sing along on the dancefloor and this one definitely ticks that box!

A bit later because of (mild) illness here's a new weekly :beatnation: mix! An obvbiously expected small tribute to Bruno Kramm is included alongside my usual mix of personal favourites and the latest greatest new tracks.
The effect of facebook cutting off hotlinking unless you pay for it was instantly noticeable last week with a 30% drop in listeners for last week's mix. Like always things like this exorbitantly impact smaller creators, artists and businesses for whom €43 a month is actually a noticeable amount of money. Like I have stated before these mixes already cost me somewhere between €30 and €50 a week in new music, the only way I can afford to add advertising to it is to lower my music cost. Which would completely defeat the purpose! I'm not a for profit organisation I'm just a small time DJ who wants to help advertise obscure electronic music. I've never made anything off that but I'm now pushed even further down the visibility order. So any help in getting the word of these mixes out there is much appreciated. Liking, sharing, commenting all help push these at least a bit higher in the algorythm. Presumably.

RIP Bruno Kramm. While I always say my scene journey started in slimelight (it really did) my first contact with the wider goth/industrial scene was being dragged by a friend of a friend to a Das Ich Concert in my hometown of Mechelen in the late 90s. I was very impressed but did little with it. But after falling in love with the scene one of the first tracks I went looking for was Kain und Abel because that one stuck with me. Last year I was very pleasantly surprised by Das Ich releasing a really good new album. I don't know what to think yet. This is so unexpected. The music will always stay.

Like every friday my latest mix has gone up on YouTube! Unlike previous fridays this isn't a clickable message, instead the you'll find where to go in the comments. Of course all my links can also be found in my bio here!
As always the Youtube version comes with album artwork (as evidenced in this picture), clear track tagging (also clearly visible) and moving bars (hinted at as this is a still image)
Hope you all enjoy and would love to hear if anyone has any favourites in this one!

With the biggest name I'm calling an end to the 2 years of weekly :beatnation: discoveries. I could add a lot of artists that have made an impression over this time. There's also the rediscoveries, bands I discovered in many different ways and some that released their best work in years, and some bands that have caught my eye but might be more suited for a feature in the future.

So for my final discovery I leave you with the amazing Slayyyter - ready to fully hit the mainstream with her trashy pop that leans heavily into techno, electro, industrial and even darkwave. She blends everything into insanely catchy danceable music that has put her on the brink of global stardom. I'll be seeing her live in just over a month and that'll be the last time anyone gets to see her in a venue of that size. I'd tell you to not sleep on her, but I'm sure she'll show up on most people's radar anyway. And it's very well deserved. From Erotic Electronic to the just released Crank 2 her music speaks for itself. Go listen. She's proof that pop can be layerd, smart, trashy, dirty and just plain damn good.
