Much of the inspiration for my work stems from my interest in the vastness often experienced in nature: the seemingly endless blue of the ocean against the horizon, the way colors penetrate and fade across the sky with the rise and fall of the sun. In moments where I find myself surrounded by such boundless limits, I am always fascinated by the quiet energy present. I seek to create work that conj

ures this flow and elusivity of nature, and allows the wearer to hold it close, if but for a moment. In my sculpture work, I investigate the merging of my longstanding interest in painting, and my formal background in jewellery design and metalsmithing. Through extensive material research and exploration, I seek to challenge what is familiar to both disciplines, and to investigate how they can merge to create something new. Claire MacDonald is a graduate of the Nova Scotia College of Art and Design where she completed a Bachelor of Fine Art with a Major in Jewelry Design and Metalsmithing. She works primarily in metal, utilizing her technical training to explore both functional jewellery and sculptural objects. Her practise is presently based in Halifax, NS, where she lives with her ever-supportive partner and greyhound, Flint.

Yesterday I finished designing the last piece for my upcoming collection! ✨✨✨

The new collection will be released this summer☀️ It consists of fifteen brand new designs, and is the most cohesive body of work I’ve created to date! All the designs can be mixed and matched, they’re very versatile, and easy for everyday wear. I’m so excited to introduce you to this new line of fun, seaweed-y jewels! Stay tuned, I’m sure I’ll offer a few sneak peeks along the way 👀✨

Then and Now—This is the who owns Kind Seas and makes your jewellery!! 🤓❤️

I can remember wanting to be an artist when I grew up from a very young age. This changed a few times, like I think at one point I wanted to be a vet, or a marine biologist because I loved animals so much. But art has always been my number one passion, and how lucky am I that after all these years, I am still just as passionate about art, and have built a career around it. Little me who just wanted to make crafts all day would be so stoked to know that’s what she would continue to do…though I haven’t reached the stage where I feel like I have quite growed up yet, so there’s still room in the plot I guess?! haha.

This is the song I think of when I recall my little years ☺️

Hello friends!

I’ve received a number of messages asking if I will be releasing my annual heart rock collection in time for Valentine’s Day. Thanks to many of you, this has become a popular and anticipated release, however, this year, I’ve decided to take a break from heart jewels. I only have a limited time throughout the year to work on designing new jewellery, and this usually happens during the winter months while the Bonavista shop is closed. So this year, I decided to focus exclusively on designing a new collection for the upcoming summer season. I’m sorry if this is disappointing! I will likely bring back the hearts next year!! 💖

In the meantime, since I’m in the early stages of design work, I’d love your feedback! Is there anything in particular you’d like to see in the upcoming collection? Tell me your wish list! 🤓✨

Hello friends! ✨
I hope everyone is keeping cozy so far this winter. I just wanted to share an update as we move forward into this new year. ✨

The cost of virtually everything has increased in recent years, and no one is untouched by the effects of this. Since I started making jewellery, what feels like many moons ago, it has always been important to me to create work that has a lot of sentimental value, and is accessible to as wide an audience as possible. I’ve always tried to keep my pricing fair, and reflective of my time, skill level, and material costs.
Unfortunately the cost of metals has absolutely skyrocketed in the past few years, but particularly this past year. 2025 saw the price of precious metals rise at an alarming rate. So, in order to continue putting my best foot forward and to bring you high-quality, lasting jewels, my prices will be increasing. This is not what I want to be doing, but I’ve held off long enough.

New pricing will go into effect on Feb. 1st. Until then, it’s a good time to treat yourself if you’ve had your eye on something.

Well that’s a wrap for Birdie and I in the shop for 2025!! ☺️🐈‍⬛✨I can’t believe this was the fourth season of Kind Seas! 💛

Thank you so very much for all your support this year 🙏🏼 ✨ Whether you stopped by the shop, told someone about it, or followed us along online, your support means the world. It’s not lost on me what a privilege it is to do what I love, in this place that I love . And to my fellow artists who are featured in the shop, thank you for trusting me with your works, you help to make this space so vibrant. ✨☺️

I met so many incredible folks this year from all over the world, and I just wanted to say a huge thank you for supporting creatives like myself, and other small businesses in this rural town. Thank you!
