Interesting Power Play is now happening in the Diamond Industry.
Botswana has started playing hardball with DeBeers this year. They supply 70% of rough diamonds to DeBeers. Their 10 year contract with DeBeers ended in 2021. They only renewed with DeBeers for two years. Once in 2021 and once in 2022. The Botswana company, Lucara Diamond, made a very lucrative deal with HB Antwerp last year. HB agreed to buy all of Lucara's rough over 10.8 carats for a one year period, thereby disrupting DeBeers normal business flow. A very lucrative deal for the Botswanian Government that enabled them to now purchase a 24% stake in HB Antwerp.
Yes, DeBeers has a decision to make. Make a deal with Botswanan Government or loose 70% of their rough supply.
This is indeed indeed high stakes poker.

Congratulations Wendy!!

Wendy is the owner of Wendy’s Country Market and Furnace Falls Farm. She has been in business for more than 20 years, experiencing many challenging seasons, as well as, good seasons.

Wendy’s Country Market, is located in a 19th century heritage school house on her parents’ farm, and provides a full country experience complete with animals, pick your own herbs, a seasonal greenhouse and children’s play area. She is proud to say they are selling an ever expanding list of our own vegetables, along with an abundance of produce grown by her parents on their farm, Corn Acre Farms, and food from over 70 local producers. They are open year-round.

Furnace Falls Farm has a commercial kitchen located in the freshly renovated farm house is where the culinary team makes the magic happen. With Chef Karen at the helm they are able to produce farm fresh baked goods, preserves, entrees, meal kits and so much more. All their products are available to purchase across the road at Wendy's Country Market. It is also the setting for educational classes, events, and is also a B&B retreat.

The Leeds Grenville Small Business Centre’s Lifetime Achievement Award was created to recognize a woman who has been in business for more than 20 years and has
demonstrated hard work, creativity and resilience.
