🌿 Dene Floral Bolo Tie 🌿

This bolo tie holds a special connection to my roots. The floral design is inspired by traditional Dene beadwork patterns that have been passed down through generations of my ancestors. Growing up in Fort Simpson, Northwest Territories, I was surrounded by these beautiful floral teachings, and creating pieces like this is one way I stay connected to my culture and honour those who came before me.

For me, beadwork is more than art—it is storytelling, remembrance, and a way of carrying my Dene heritage forward with every piece I create.

A time to celebrate and honour the histories, cultures, languages, and contributions of First Nations, Inuit, and Métis Peoples.

This month, take time to learn, listen, and support Indigenous communities. Attend a powwow or market, support Indigenous artists and businesses, read Indigenous authors, visit Indigenous art exhibits, and learn about the Nations whose lands you live on.

As a Dene artist, I am proud to carry my culture through my work and share the teachings passed down through generations.

Let’s celebrate Indigenous voices, stories, and traditions… not just this month, but all year long.
