There’s a kind of magic in the workshop this time of year, especially on the heels of our first real storm of the season... The way the windows rattle with the wind, how my tea goes cold far too quickly as hyper-focus sets in, and the basket of Christmas orders that gather on my bench like a million little stories, each waiting their turn.
And then a piece like this one appears to give me pause...I am nothing if not a Crow for sparkling stones... The Cordelia is a ring fit for a forest faerie, textured like bark and ancient mythology, at its centre cradling a teal sapphire the way dusk holds its last bit of light. She feels like she wandered in from a mossy clearing and decided to stay...though she is destined to travel.
Creating your holiday pieces is always the heart of my December - long evenings at the bench (in fact I slept at the workshop last night, afraid I would be stormstayed at the farm!), solder smoke curling like chimney wisps, the evwr present quiet hum of focus and intention. It’s busy, and a bit of whirlwind chaos in the creating, but every time a ring or necklace emerges with its own wild little soul, I remember why I love doing this. And oh, I love this little ring, and how she will slip onto someone's finger soon with the sweetest of promises.
With busy polished stained hands, I dream that somewhere soon, one of you will open a box and find a piece of the forest, a piece of the sea, a bit of wide eyed wonder crafted just for you. And *that* is always the best part of my work.
Thank you for another season of letting these hands make your stories tangible.
Love,
K
