At St. Joseph's Villa, the Community Access to Long-Term Care (CALTC) pilot program is helping older adults and caregivers navigate the challenging period between living independently and securing long-term care placement.

By bringing together health, wellness and social supports in one accessible location, CALTC is improving quality of life, reducing barriers to care and helping older adults remain safely connected to their communities.

Since September 2025, the program has received 164 referrals and provided more than 1,500 service encounters. With 86 clients currently engaged in services and 65 successful discharges, CALTC is helping older adults access the right care at the right time while supporting them to age safely and with dignity in the community.

CALTC’s interdisciplinary team provides a broad range of supports tailored to individual needs, including program navigation, nursing care, foot care, social work, physiotherapy consultations, bathing services and wellness programs. Through this personalized, team-based approach, clients and families can access the services they need. As demand for older adult care services continues to grow, CALTC is helping address a critical gap in the care journey for many older adults and caregivers.

As we recognize National Seniors Day, we celebrate the older adults we have the privilege of caring for and learning from across our health system every day.

Unstoppable Compassion is at the heart of everything we do.

Across St. Joseph’s Health System, our people are united by a shared vision: to provide
exceptional, compassionate care and help build healthier communities.

From a volunteer holding the hand of a person in hospice, so they don’t spend their final moments alone to a peer support worker helping a patient get the care they deserve, teams across our health system continue to care for all people with Unstoppable Compassion.

A very special thank you to our Presenting Sponsor, Circle of Life Cremation and Burial Centre Inc. for their incredible support of the 22nd Annual Anne & Neil McArthur Memorial Golf Tournament!

Circle of Life isn’t just a business; they are community builders who consistently show up for the people and organizations that make Dundas so special. Whether they’re supporting a local fundraiser, showing up for our local services clubs, or helping families through one of life’s most difficult transitions, they continue to make a meaningful difference in our community.

Circle of Life have made an ongoing commitment to creating a calming and comforting space for families experiencing grief and loss. Families are met where they are in their journey, with plans tailored to their individual circumstances, priorities and resources. Whether it’s preplanning for the future, arranging services at the time of loss, or simply stopping in for a cup of tea, a friendly face and a place to chat, they are always there to help. We are especially grateful to Karin Schuett, a proud member of the St. Joseph’s Villa Foundation Board, for her unwavering support of our Campus of Care.

This year’s tournament is once again SOLD OUT and we can’t wait to welcome our golfers to Dundas Valley Golf & Curling Club for another incredible tournament, all made possible by the generosity of our community.

To our sponsors, golfers, volunteers and partners: thank you for showing up for St. Joseph’s Villa and Margaret’s Place Hospice. Your support helps us continue providing compassionate care in the heart of Dundas.

Thank you Circle of Life!

On Thursday September 10, we officially opened Art of a Good Death at Margaret’s Place Hospice, a powerful national exhibition inviting us to reflect on death, dying, grief, caregiving and what it means to experience a “good death.”

The exhibition grew out of research led by the Isenberg Lab at Bruyère Health Research Institute, in partnership with the University of Ottawa. Led by Dr. Sarina Isenberg, Chair in Mixed Methods Palliative Care Research at Bruyère Health Research Institute, Associate Professor at the University of Ottawa, and proud St. Joseph’s Villa Foundation Board Member, the project explored how art can help translate research into something people can see, feel and connect with.

Artists from across Canada were invited to interpret research about what makes a good death through their work. More than 100 submissions from artists across nine provinces were received, with selected works now travelling across the country through hospitals, hospices and art spaces. The initiative was supported by a Canadian Institutes of Health Research (CIHR) Planning and Dissemination Grant.

The St. Joseph’s Villa Foundation is proud to support this stop of the exhibition during the month of September as part of our 5-year anniversary celebrations at Margaret’s Place Hospice. Hospice has become so much more than a place of care; it is also a place for connection, reflection, remembrance and important conversations about how we want to live and how we want to be cared for at the end of life.

Interested in learning more? Join us at our Open House weekends throughout the month of September for tours of Margaret’s Place Hospice and an opportunity to experience Art of a Good Death.

For 51 years, the Dundas Cactus Parade has brought the streets of Dundas to life. And this year, with “Legendary Dundas” as the theme, we knew exactly who we wanted to celebrate.

The legendary residents who call St. Joseph’s Villa home.

Brigitte, 91, spent her career as a language translator. James, 73, was a star track and field athlete. Jannette, 82, owned a popular donut shop. And Peter, 100, is a war veteran.

And these are just a few of the incredible stories represented on our Campus of Care. Every one of our residents has a story that spans decades with careers, accomplishments, adventures with plenty of stories to tell.

We were so proud to have them join us in the parade alongside our incredible staff and volunteers, with the streets packed and Dundas cheering us on.

Thank you, Dundas, for showing up for us year after year. We’re proud to be part of this community, and even prouder to celebrate the legendary people who call St. Joseph’s Villa and Margaret’s Place Hospice home. 💙

We’ll see you again at next year’s parade!🌵

Five years of Margaret’s Place Hospice. Five years of compassionate care, connection and community.

Earlier this month, we gathered with donors, volunteers, staff, healthcare leaders, families, community partners and supporters to celebrate five incredible years of Margaret’s Place.

What began as a vision for hospice care close to home became a $13-million community-built hospice with now 11 beds, made possible by the generosity, leadership and dedication of so many.

Since opening its doors in 2021, Margaret’s Place has welcomed 1,174 admissions, including 882 hospice residents and 292 respite stays, while providing care and support to individuals and families at no cost throughout their palliative care journey.

And the impact reaches far beyond the numbers. More than 45,500 visitors have walked through the doors, over 90 volunteers continue to give their time and compassion, and countless families have found comfort, connection and a place to simply be together.

As we celebrate five years, we’re honouring the people and community who made Margaret’s Place possible and looking ahead to what’s still possible. Margaret’s Place is your legacy. 💙

Thank you to Dundas Today for capturing the story of this special milestone. Read the full article on their website to learn more about the journey, the people behind it and the impact Margaret’s Place continues to have in our community.

And this is just the beginning! Throughout September, we’ll be sharing more stories, memories and moments from the past five years. Follow along as we celebrate the people who have helped make Margaret’s Place what it is today.
