August is a truly special month because we celebrate not one, but THREE Gemstones! Peridot, spinel and sardonyx are all August birthstones.

- Peridot is known as “the Evening Emerald” but looks wonderful any time of day. It's associated with prosperity and good fortune.

- Spinel is often mistaken for either a ruby or pink sapphire. Vivid red is the most sought after colour of spinel gemstones, followed by cobalt blue, bright pink, and bright orange.

- Sardonyx ranges in colour from yellowish-red to reddish-brown and shows layers of parallel bands. It's name is derived from sard (referencing the ancient Persian city, Sardis, where the red stone was found) with onyx (from the Greek word of the same spelling, which meant “nail or claw.”)

We celebrate one of the most coveted gems in July: Ruby. ❤ The name comes from the Latin word ruber, meaning “red”; the colour of love.

Ruby has been long associated as a symbol of power and youthful energy in Indian jewelry. Centuries ago, some believed it could predict misfortune or danger, and others claimed it would cure diseases and soothe aggression. Medieval Europeans believed that rubies bestowed health, wisdom, wealth and success in love.
