A talismanic lentil-shape cab I cut, in progress towards a pendant. // J'ai taillé ce cabochon magique d'amethyste en forme de lentille, et maintenant je le sertis.

I am very proud to make my jewelry myself, except for highly specialized processes like plating or casting of limited series. I set all my stones, I make most settings, I string my necklaces, I cement pearls, and much more. Being a jeweller who outsources most (if not all) skilled jewelry jobs has never ever interested me - I'd better get back to academic path I (kind of courageously) left for art 😊

During my studies in 🇩🇪 Idar-Oberstein Summer Academy Summer Academy Idar-Oberstein I had a dream opportunity to test many fun and rare materials at Peter Vermandere ´s Material Song course. One of those was Meerschaum (Écume de Mer) which was often used in older times to carve pipe decor. It was a delight to work, and very special due to its unique physical properties. I haven't coated it though. Now, back to my workshop in Montreal, I decided to try my all time fav Renaissance Wax on it. I guess it's working huh! We'll see! // Pendant mon cours à l'académie d'été à Idar-Oberstein j'ai essayé à travailler l'écume de mer et c'était le fun!!! Je ne l'ai pas traité par ailleurs, alors une fois de retour à Montréal, j'ai décidé de frotter ma petite sculpture avec ma cire Renaissance preférée. Ça marche il semble!

BRASDEBEBE - BABYHANDS pendentif / pendant.

Série limitée / Limited edition

Ce bras de poupée est en porcelaine et provient à l'origine d'une minuscule poupée allemande pour maison de poupée. Issu d'une fouille en Allemagne, il peut être daté approximativement des années 1890. Bien qu'il ait été soigneusement nettoyé, le matériau peut présenter des traces de rouille qui font partie intégrante de son histoire.

Dans une autre vie, je dirigeais une petite entreprise spécialisée dans l'expertise de poupées de collection, incluant des modèles anciens et vintage. Lors d'un déplacement en Allemagne pour un événement international, j'ai acheté pour moi-même une poupée ancienne allemande destinée aux maisons de poupée. Leur conception est très simple : le corps et la tête forment une seule pièce en porcelaine, tandis que les mains et les jambes sont fixées par un fil métallique. Simple et ingénieux. Il s'agissait de poupées bon marché pour l'époque, produites en série en Thuringe et vendues à l'international… MAIS IL Y A ENCORE QUELQUE CHOSE À PROPOS DE CE BIJOU…

The BABYHAND is made of china and was supposed to belong to a tiny German dollhouse doll. Comes from a German excavation and can be loosely dated around the 1890´s. Even though it is thoroughly cleaned, the material can bear traces of rust stains which make part of its biography.

In my previous life I owned a small business in the domain of collectible doll expertise, and antique/vintage dolls were part of it. When I went to Germany for an international event, I bought a German antique dollhouse doll for myself. They are very simply constructed: china body and head are made as a whole, and then hands and legs are attached on a wire. Simple and smart. These were inexpensive dolls for their time, mass produced in Thuringia and sold internationally… BUT THERE IS SOMETHING ELSE ABOUT THIS JEWEL…
