Did you know that “Tourmaline” is the second October birthstone?

Its name comes from a Sinhalese word, “turmali” meaning “mixed stones”. I think that suits it 🍉

Tourmaline never picks just one colour.
It’s the only gemstone I know that can be pink at one end and green at the other, sometimes at the same small crystal.
Gemologists call it bi-colour or watermelon 🍉
When I’m sorting through my beads, I always find myself holding the multi coloured ones up the window a little longer than the rest.

These pearls were made for October.

Each bead in this hand-knotted necklace is a large 15-28mm freshwater pearl on peacock tones.
🦚 Blue, grey, green and a hint of deep pink. The way the Colors shift as the light moves is almost like watching an opal. No 2 strands are the same; each pearl carries its own iridescence.
Finished with a gold vermeil marine clasp. Available in 18inches.

October’s gemstone has always stopped me in my tracks

Opal is one of the only stones that shows you all it’s Colors at once.
Flashes of pink, teal, amber, and violet shifting as the light moves. We, gemologists, call it « Play-of-color » and it happens because tiny silica spheres inside the stone diffract light like a prism. No two opals are identical. Every stone is its own universe.

October Opal has a quiet resonance for me. It carries warmth and fire at the same time. A lot like October itself.
