Occupational Hazard: Bee stings. My poor hand is beginning to resemble a marshmallow ;). Thank goodness it's my left hand. It looks like my work will be limited to pruning dead stalks and purchasing my fall-sowing seeds today.

It's peony blooming time! If you like to bring your blooms inside, only cut the already open ones. The closed buds need ants to eat the sticky sugary substance holding the petals together. Ants in the garden contribute to the reproduction of peonies and many other plants. Happy peony season to all!

One of my favourite plant side quests is finding sad-looking plants on sale at nurseries and taking them home. This young Pagoda dogwood was getting too much sun, and not enough drainage. I hope I can nurse it back to health and offer it to a client healthy, but at it's discounted price. Fingers crossed, you win some, you lose some.

It's a planting day! Featuring these shade and part-shade loving beauties; Joe Pye W**d, Ontario native, bee and butterfly queen. Lemon Love Coral Bells, a hybrid of the Ontario native Heuchera Americana, bee attractive. Columbine, Ontario native and hummingbird pleaser. Siberian Bugloss a non-invasive cousin to our own bugloss, early food for pollinators and extremely hardy. Eco-friendly shade and part-shade gardens can be pollinator friendly too! 🐝🦋
