I woke up this morning reflecting on a special moment I experienced last week while vending at Southlake Hospital.

A woman and her family stopped by my table and was mesmerized by the charms. She decided to design a necklace and she mentioned that it would represent her mother who was currently in the hospital. I happily helped her decide on final touches and while doing that she got an urgent call. She left abruptly before finishing but asked if I could finish the design for her and promised to come back.

I said of course, no problem at all.

I finished the necklace and packaged it. Several hours passed and I didn’t see her come back, so I figured maybe she got busy or simply forgot. Visiting family in the hospital can get overwhelming, I totally get it.

It got to the last 15 mins before I had to leave and I started to pack up, and suddenly I saw her and her husband walking up to my table. Her eyes were full of tears and she simply said, “Hi. Is my necklace ready”? I said of course, and showed her the work I did while she was away. She bursted into more tears. She said it’s beautiful, and continued to cry. I said to her that I’m really happy she loves it and I asked her if I could give her a hug. She said yes, and I gave this woman the longest hug as she cried in my arms. She asked me if I could help her put on her necklace and I said yes and told her that her mom would love it and she is so proud of her.

I knew what had just happened, without her saying or me asking.

The woman looked at me with gratitude, paid for her necklace, saying that it was worth every penny, and then said to me: “You should be here every day. People like me need you.” 🥹💖

If ever there was a time that I felt like I was walking in my purpose, it was at that very moment.

I’m so grateful for my small business for so many reasons, but the biggest one by far is that it has given me the opportunity to connect with others on a human level. We are all going through it, all navigating this thing called LIFE. I’m just so honoured to be able to offer comfort or happiness to others, even if it’s in the smallest charm. ✨
