Well that is a cute story if I ever heard one. The LAPIS girls visited the Byward market vendors village. 5 friends who their first initials put together spell the word Lapis. How did stone era start? I’ve always believed that a negative experience can sometimes lead to something unexpectedly positive. People often ask how Stone Era began, and the short version is this: back in 1990, during a night out, I was the victim of a criminal act. The only physical injury was a broken shoulder — but for someone deeply into bodybuilding at the time, it was both physically brutal and morally devastating. Over the years, that injury led to five shoulder surgeries.

About 14 years ago, still fascinated by natural stones and their benefits, I started looking for a copper bracelet to help with the ongoing pain. My ego wasn’t ready to wear the “old‑looking” pharmacy versions 😉. After some searching, I found a beautiful double‑wrap copper and tiger’s eye bracelet — but the price was outrageous. So I watched a few videos and decided to make one myself. After many attempts, I finally created a gorgeous piece. Friends saw it, wanted their own, and little by little I designed more models. Eventually, I had around 70 or 80 bracelets… and definitely not 70 friends to give them to.

One night, wondering what on earth I was supposed to do with all of them, I saw a commercial for The Keg in the ByWard Market. A lightbulb went on. I reached out, met with Andy, gave him all the details, and the following weekend I was vending at the market.

Hard to believe it all started with one table and nine models of natural stone bracelets. Looking back, it’s clear this wasn’t just a hobby — it was the beginning of my true passion.
