Seacycledglass Jewelry & Accessories Sea glass jewelry designed by Kristina Rudnitski I am an artist, jewelry designer, environmentalist and love shiny, pretty things.

Being Eco and Chic are both important to me and are in no way mutually exclusive! My professional background relates to environmental science and international chemicals policy. My passion is grounded in combining the arts and science of sustainable living through environmentally responsible design. For the past 20 years, I have explored various media to express my passion including stained glass, oil painting, building my studio in the urban woods, feng shui, and now sea glass jewelry.

With Meta terms & conditions changing on Oct 30 to require consent for them to scrape all data, images, links etc to train their AI, ie stealing intellectual property for their own profit and nefarious purposes, I will be deleting all my instagram and fb accounts and profiles shortly. Will this impact my ability to reach people, market what I do? Probably most definitely. Have been terribly uncomfortable with their practices for a long time, though, and this is the final unethical thing that is driving me to delete.

I’ll be switching to platforms that maintain privacy and ethical standards that I can live with. Not entirely sure what those are yet. I do have a proton mail account active now. My handle will remain the same, as much as possible, kdrudnitski. I’ve got a domain name with no website, AtelierEkologica , where I will build an online presence that will provide a home for all aspects of what I do, eg, art, sewing, fibre, gardening etc. I’ve got a blue sky account I’ve never used ; perhaps I’ll put links there when I’ve got them.
Have stayed this long because I felt I had to in order to build community, reach people, be an entrepreneur. Don’t want to be a party to this meta thing any more. I’ll find community by starting as I mean to go on, guided by values and ethics.

To get the word out about my sewing classes, art & gardening events etc., my plan is to send out a newsletter, perhaps even a good old fashioned flyer in a community space or two. Feeling extremely reluctant to hop onto some other online platform right now given how quickly they are all adopting sketchy practices.

Have been meaning to write about this for a while ... I’ve been uncomfortable with socials for a long time, this current platform for years, and now feel absolutely ill about it. There is no permutation of reality where I can feel ok engaging with this & enmeshed platforms, it’s antithetical to all I value. I’ll be deleting my accounts asap.

As an artist and small business person, social media is a huge part of building an audience and marketing. I havn’t figured out how I’m going to pivot so will keep my personal and business profiles here for the short term while I sort that out. I made an account (same name) where the sky is blue though i’m not convinced that will result in a significantly different outcome over time. Once I have a space I feel more ethically aligned with, I’ll post those links then delete all my accounts associated with the dark forces that make my inner core of my being wither and scream simultaneously.

What makes this hard is that these platforms have become a way for special interest groups and communities to interact easily. However, the ways in which the information we provide and the business practices of the so-called leadership are directly contributing to a crazy dangerous free-fall across political, social, cultural, economic, environmental, health, justice, civil society, humanitarian, etc spheres. It’s unfathomable to me what I’m seeing. I will not be party to it any longer.

And yes, there is much more for me to do to confront all these issues. This is one step among many.

I get that it’s hard to figure this one out bc the platforms have become ingrained to most peoples’ daily lives enabling functions we value. And to change that will require different solutions for the range of uses cases. Looking at Discord for community groups. Change has to start somewhere and sometime despite not having all of the answers so this is where I’m beginning 🎬🚦

Excited to be at the Champlain Park Christmas Craft Show on Saturday November 23 (aka tomorrow). This will be my final show for the season. Perfect stop for a wander in Westboro 🛍️ The show runs from 10 am - 3 pm at the Champlain Park field house, 149 Cowley Ave, Ottawa ON

Yay for the season where we get to see the creative genius of our local artisans!!! And hopefully buy something special ...
