Whink is anything but a typical gift shop. In fact, we refuse to use the word, and prefer to describe our products as jewelry, art, and things!
Located in Churchill Square in St. John's, NL, our recently-expanded retail space is tastefully displayed with trendy and classic jewelry lines, simply stunning housewares, and locally-crafted art.
A signature product line for Whink is our cheerful Row House line of collectables, featuring paintings of the colorful townhouses, which line the streets of St. John’s. The hand-painted glassware is all made locally and are a favourite for customers here and around the world.
All our items are hand-selected by owner Kim Paddon and will stand out from other gifts, accessories, and jewelry you have encountered elsewhere. Our customers don’t often come asking for a certain look, rather they rely on our fashion-forward styling to give them an idea of the next great trends.
At the heart of Whink is the customer experience. We relish in showing you something unexpected and helping you choose the perfect item. We believe personalized service is the best service, which is why we like to hear from shoppers about what they love and what they would love to see.
History
Whink opened its doors on May 19, 2010 on Duckworth Street in the historical downtown shopping district in St. John’s, NL. Whink was located on Water Street from 2013 - 2018 and today Whink is located in the bustling Churchill Square, in a much larger space.
What’s the story behind the name Whink?
Whink owner Kim Paddon studied graphic design and when naming her business was conscious of branding and design. Paddon wanted something short and memorable; a name that tied into her feminine colour scheme of pink and purple.
A brainstorming session with family led to the name “On a Whim,” thinking it would appeal to the shopper picking herself up a little gift – because she deserved it.
But Paddon insisted on having only one word as the name of the shop. Whink was born out of the brainstorming session and has stuck ever since!

Kim Paddon is one of a new breed of business owners. With her signature glasses and passion for pink, this fashionista operates Whink with sense and style.
Kim has always been creative and studied to be a graphic designer at Holland College. After graduation, Kim returned home to St. John’s, NL to be closer to her family and began working in retail and graphic design. Kim was helping her Dad find the perfect Christmas present for her Mom, when she stumbled upon her dream business in the form of a gift shop.
Over the next few months Whink was created. The shop has been featuring Paddons’ trendy and classic style since May 2010, in the form of locally-made and international jewellery and other beautiful things. Whink has recently expanded into a larger storefront and online shop. Kim loves her horse Kitty, bright lipstick, glitter, and meeting new customers. She lives in St. John’s with her husband Rob Paddon and their beagle Bentley.
