🔎 A Special Moment at The Global Stone Mineral Gallery.
Today, we had the pleasure of introducing Sophia and Mila to the fascinating world of fossil amber.

We showed them how to examine amber under a microscope and discovered tiny insects preserved inside these beautiful pieces of ancient resin.

It was wonderful to see their curiosity as they looked through the microscope and discovered something they had never seen before. Their curiosity — and Sophia’s reaction when it was Mila’s turn to look — made this moment especially memorable

And we enjoyed it just as much — showing them, explaining what they were seeing, and sharing our knowledge and love of minerals.

Today at The Global Stone Mineral Gallery, we explored a beautiful pink tourmaline under the microscope together with Luke Traub, Gemmologist, who also captured these remarkable microscopic images.
We chose tourmaline especially for October — one of the traditional birthstones for those born in October.

We examined the stone at 10× and 20× magnification, revealing an extraordinary microscopic world within.
Under magnification, we observed trichites — delicate, filamentary fluid inclusions — as well as parallel growth tubes and other internal growth features.

What looks like a beautiful gemstone to the naked eye can reveal an entirely different world under the microscope.

Gemology is often about learning to see what the eye cannot see. 🔬

Summer Never Ends. 💙

The end of September always feels a little bittersweet.
Summer is over, the days are getting shorter, and we already miss the warmth, the ocean and that special feeling of endless summer.

And then comes this photograph by our family friend Alex — a beautiful Brazilian agate slice in front of a Japanese art poster by artist Hiroshi Nagai, with the words:

夏は、終わらない。
Summer Never Ends.

Perhaps this is exactly what we need at the end of September — a little reminder that summer doesn’t have to disappear completely. # Agate
