Happy Halloween from the Overlook Hotel. 🎃

This October, we found the perfect writing companion for spooky season. Montegrappa’s tribute to Stanley Kubrick’s The Shining turns one of the scariest films ever made into a pen.

The clip is the key to Room 237, with a red tag. Open the cap’s peephole and the twins appear, framed by the words “Come play with us.” A maze is engraved around the cap band. The barrel opens like the elevator doors to show the ink inside, deep red. Even the 18k gold nib carries Jack’s outline. And all around the blind cap: “All work and no play makes Jack a dull boy.”

Happy Boss’s Day, Jason.

Some of the best things about Jason are not in a display case.

For decades, Jason has treated this work as more than selling a beautiful object. He helps people mark the biggest moments of their lives. He builds real friendships with the makers and partners we work with. And he gives back to communities far beyond Vancouver. The people he has helped remember him, and so do we.

He has travelled the world to meet the makers and spoken to the press about the art of watchmaking. He has covered long distances on two wheels. Yet, most days, you’ll find him right here, behind the counter, gloves on, sharing a piece of jewellery crafted at our own bench by our goldsmith, or a masterpiece brought to life by an independent watchmaker in an atelier somewhere in the world.

Thank you for helping her reconnect with her kid side!”
That line came from the parent of a BC camper, in a thank-you card Arthritis Society Canada sent to our own Jason Bosa this year.

Most children look forward to summer camp. For kids living with arthritis, it is often out of reach, because traditional camps usually can’t support their needs. Arthritis Society Canada changes that. In BC, its overnight camp runs with a team from BC Children’s Hospital, and families pay nothing to attend. Kids get medical care, accessible spaces, and a week to swim, make friends, and simply be kids.

Palladio is proud to support this cause and stand behind it as a house. Today we are asking you to join us. Donate, start a small fundraiser with friends, or simply share this post with someone who might help. Every gift moves one more child closer to camp.

At Palladio, we look for makers with a point of view. Utopia is one of them: an independent Italian house, founded in Milan in 1996, with pieces handmade in Italy by master goldsmiths.

Operetta. A matching set of earrings, pendant and ring. South Sea pearls, diamonds and the deep green of emeralds, in a classic Italian design.

Brooches. A selection of the house’s most iconic pins, from across its collections. Each one has its own details, precious materials and careful craftsmanship. A small jewel that you pin on and make your own.

Sinuosa. Pearl necklaces and bracelets with a titanium structure inside. It gives them elasticity, so they move with the body and are easy to wear every day.

We choose pieces like these for a reason. Independent houses and artists give clients something personal, made with care and not made for everyone. That is our idea of authored luxury.

Czapek has revisited the Antarctique Dark Sector in Cosmic Blue.

Titanium made its Antarctique debut in 2023 with the Dark Sector, which has a very distinctive dial. In Cosmic Blue, Czapek pairs the titanium with a deep blue finished in velouté, a soft, velvety finish that adds depth and richness to the colour.

It comes in 40.5mm and 38.5mm (‘S’ case), as an edition of 25 pieces and 10 pieces.

The Cosmic Blue is the one you see in the video. We have the titanium Antarctique Dark Sector in store now, so you can see the dial in person.

In Vancouver, the leaves turn and the rain settles in. A bicolour tourmaline brings the colour back.

Tourmaline is one of October’s birthstones, and the bicolour stones are the most unusual. Here are the facts:

🔹One crystal, two colours. The mix of minerals changes as the crystal grows. The colour changes with it, so one stone can be pink at one end and green at the other.
🔹Watermelon tourmaline. The best-known bicolour. Pink in the centre, green around the edge, like a slice of watermelon.
🔹A name that fits. Tourmaline is often said to come from a Sinhalese word meaning “stone of mixed colours”.
🔹The cut matters. The colours sit in bands along the crystal, so cutters often shape bicolour stones long and rectangular to keep both colours visible.
🔹It changes with the angle. Tourmaline shows different shades when you turn it. Look at it from the side, then from the top.

At our bench, we love designing around a stone like this. The setting should let both colours speak, and the piece should feel like yours.

This pearl ring needed a new purpose for its new owner. So we turned it into a pendant.

The pearl stayed. The setting changed. It now hangs from a chain, with a little sparkle at the top, and it moves with her every day.

That is what we do at our bench. We repair, reset and redesign. A worn prong is rebuilt. A loose stone is secured. A ring becomes a pendant. Stones from an old piece move into a new design. The metal and the memory stays with you.

Nothing is lost. The piece simply continues, and this time it is signed by you.
