This wraffle is meant to help support my beloved cat, muse, model, supervisor, and full time employee Prudence. Prudence was recently diagnosed with hyperthyroidism, and requires radiation treatment on June 8, which will cost approx $3500, as well as follow up appointments to check blood work etc. if you've followed me for a long time you'll be very familiar with Prudence and have seen her as my fur backdrop for my beadworks. she is the most sassy, loving, sweet and hilarious little kitty and i dearly want to give her the best life especially during her golden girls era as a 14 years young lady!!

life lately..

beadin up a storm in between resting my muscles and tendons that are flarin up lately. using devils club, aleve, cold packs. doing weight lifting and yoga to strengthen em.

listening to - snrk, new nine inch nails album, beach house podcast - listening to bone valley right now
watching - finished the pitt, started hacks
reading - all rachel reid all the time
current fave beading snack - goldfish crackers, black coffee, pb cookies

prudie is still stuffed up but slowly getting better. her iodine treatment is scheduled for june 1 😵‍💫 and i am working away on wraffle pieces to hopefully help cover the giant vet bill.

enjoying the sunny days, and trying to work through heavy emotional stuff.. but slowly feeling lighter.

still sober 🙏🏽 almost three years!! and having intense dreams.. the tarot cards told me to pay attention to my dreams, to accept help, and to trust my intuition cause i know what's right 🌌🔮❤️

thankful for good days and bad, thankful to still be here. praying for those of us going through hard times.. praying for love, healing and protection for my family and loved ones.

westcoast wassum - these pieces celebrate the colours often seen in many west coast artworks.

they are about my love for the west coast. they were made with loving calm energy, thoughts of my hometown, growing up, going out on the boat with my dad, watching him drop crab traps, smelling fresh salty air, hearing eagles and ravens, eating delicious smoked fish, delicious huge steaks of halibut, smoked oolichans, quiet nights and bright stars. ⁣⁣⁣

i hope by bringing them home, if you are not Indigenous, they display your ally-ship and commitment to being a good relation to Indigenous folks.

they are made with beautiful miyuki beads, including 24k gold plated beads. these hang about 4 inches on gold plated nickel free hooks.

guxʷdema: universe: eagle nebula inspired pieces (series in progress, release date tbd)

these pieces are inspired by actual NASA imagery of the Eagle Nebula, also known as Messier 16, M16, or Star Queen Nebula. The nebula contains several active star-forming regions. The Eagle Nebula lies in the Sagittarius Arm of the Milky Way. It is estimated to be 1-2 million years old, and is approx 5700 light years away (info taken from Wikipedia).

i am inspired by the Haisla word guxʷdema which ive seen translated as universe but also world in my word resource lists. i love thinking about what my Ancestors meant when they used this word. i imagine maybe it meant everything outside ourselves, everything out there, everything around us.

when i create this work i try to be in a good, open minded headspace. i think about how incredible it is that we can see these images of outer space, and what my Ancestors would think of these images. guxʷdema. feeling connected and in relation with everything. having words for things we cant truly understand or experience, but we know it's there. feeling small and insignificant but also connected and valuable, experiencing this human life.

i create these pieces now using a giant, growing and evolving bead mix ive been adding to for the past six years. there are easily over 150 different types of beads in this mix, some of which i no longer have. my first galaxy inspired collection was in 2020.

i look at images done by NASA of various nebulas, and then select hundreds of different beads colours and semi precious gemstones to mimic the image in beads. i don't use a pattern or anything, i just pick up each bead one at a time while looking back and forth and the image on my phone. i count and keep track of roughly where each coloured cloud area is and slowly painstakingly create each piece. they take many hours of intense concentration.

i don't do them very often because they tire my brain and eyes out, so i need to make sure im in the right headspace.

release date tbd, likely early to mid june. im going to attempt a few other nebulas as well 🌌❤️

ḡánut - night.

this beadwork is about looking up at the starry night sky and dreaming about life and what good things are to come. it is meant to celebrate the in between times when things are percolating, you’re taking time to rest and recharge, and knowing that you’re on the right path.

these are made entirely of charlotte facet cut sparkling beads, including 24k gold plated charlottes for the stars. these are one of a kind. these hang about 5.5 inches

unfortunately these earrings were stolen or possibly lost from the space they were being displayed at. ive never had this happen to me before.. it is so devastating 😵‍💫

these were made using my lagoon nebula bead mix that i created as part of my Indigenous Futurisms project. i envisioned a beaver spirit swimming in the lagoon.. and as Beaver Clan i really felt like these were a part of my spirit. i am heart broken that it turned out this way.

it is really disappointing when our work isn't treated with respect, isn't protected, and isn't cared for. having my work taken this way feels so violating.

i really hope whoever took these cares for them and cherishes them, i hope they understand what they mean and how much love i put into them. i hope they bring needed medicine to whoever wears them.

i know other beaders have gone through this type of thing as well and it hurts my heart to think of it.

i hope all our precious beadworks get taken care of and cherished out in the world today 💓🙏🏽💓

y̓ák̓iqela - feeling sad / unhappy.

these are about going through a dark, painful, confusing time. feels like a bright sharp wound, a healing bruise, and eventually a sort of calmness that settles.. things aren't resolved but you're getting used to things.

they are about having a hard time hearing your intuition, feeling a guiding force, replaying hard things and trauma in order to try and solve them but not quite getting there.

my heart goes out to anyone else feeling these types of feelings.

i hope these remind you you're not alone.. and that feeling deeply is part of our human experience.. this darkness and pain will pass.

these one of a kind earrings are made with 13 different types of charlotte facet cut beads. they hang about 4.5 inches on surgical steel hooks.

‘ugʷelís: land. these imagine dark, rich soil on a cool but sunny day.. immersing your fingers into the soil and feeling connected to the earth.

inspired by connection to earth, i thought about digging up soil with my hands and feeling the cool and dense richness of it. having access to safe outdoor space that you can work with and make your own is such a gift. i am so happy to be able to plant things and tend to them everyday, and to be able to let prudence out to sniff and judge everything as well.

these long six inch fringe earrings are still waiting for their perfect human. they were made carefully and slowly while dreaming of working on my garden 🌱

‘émlha : play (in x̄á’islak̓ala) giant my little pony unicorn pair

this series is inspired by 90s toys. they are meant to evoke a positive nostalgic feeling, playing with toys and feeling safe and happy. these colours are so magical to my eyeballs and i just absolutely love working with them. i hope they bring some joy and lightness to your day.

this series is meant to remind you of your child self, and to try and play and find joy for them too.

these one of a kind earrings were made slowly over multiple days. they hang 7 inches on gold plated nickel free hooks, and are made with 7 different types of beads including 24k gold plated beads.

these contain faceted semi precious gemstones: amazonite for self discovery, harmony, clear communication and balance. they contain iridescent glass horns and glass dagger drops.
