Last Week’s Market Recap
⬇️
Between June 15 and June 19, gold and silver both moved lower, mainly pressured by the Federal Reserve’s latest message on interest rates.

On Wednesday, the Fed kept rates unchanged, but its new projections showed that 9 out of 19 policymakers now expect at least one rate hike this year.

This made the week more difficult for precious metals, with investors adjusting to the possibility of higher rates ahead.

Geopolitics also stayed in the background. Planned U.S.-Iran talks in Switzerland were cancelled on Friday, keeping uncertainty around peace efforts in focus, but investors remained mostly focused on the Fed’s more cautious message.

Gold price
Over the past week, gold declined -2.88%, falling from a weekly high of $4,376/oz ($140.70 per gram) on June 17 to a low of $4,141/oz ($133.10 per gram) on June 19.

Silver price
Silver fell -4.62% over the week, dropping from a weekly high of $72.77/oz ($2.34 per gram) on June 15 to a low of $64.07/oz ($2.06 per gram) on June 19.

Weekly digest: Peace hopes wobble as gold rebounds
⬇️
1/8🏦 Warsh makes his debut. Kevin Warsh’s debut as Fed chair struck a hawkish tone this week, as he vowed to prioritise inflation control. Markets reacted with rising Treasury yields as an October rate rise was priced in. (FT.com)

2/8🥇 Gold bounces back. Gold rallied this week, as President Trump said the Strait of Hormuz could reopen in a matter of days. While prices are still lower than pre-war, Friday morning prices were at $4,176/oz.

3/8🛢️ Oil prices tumble. Oil prices neared a three-month low this week, with Brent crude trading at around $79 a barrel, as the International Energy Agency said the world oil market looks set to see a significant surplus in 2027. (Reuters)

4/8📈 Stoxx 600 on the up. European stocks have been given a boost by a possible US‑Iran peace deal, with strategists at Goldman and Barclays raising their year‑end targets. Many sectors are still trading below pre‑conflict levels, offering recovery potential, while AI remains the key driver. (Bloomberg)

5/8🚀 SpaceX overtakes Amazon. Just days after the firm’s historic IPO, SpaceX rose through the rankings to become the fifth-largest stock in the world midweek, overtaking Amazon and gaining on Microsoft. (Bloomberg)

6/8🌱 Green keeps growing. The green economy has hit a record high value of $10 trillion, as revenues from eco products and services rose to $5.5 trillion in 2025. Electric vehicles and advanced batteries alone added $62 billion of revenue. (Bloomberg)

7/8🕊️ Peace talks postponed. Having been poised to discuss the next steps of the peace deal signed earlier this week, US Vice-President JD Vance has pulled out of his planned trip to meet Iranian negotiators in Switzerland, leaving the finer details of any peace plans uncertain. (Reuters)

8/8 🇺🇦 Ukraine peace efforts continue. Following talks between Presidents Trump and Zelenskiy on Tuesday, G7 leaders said discussions on a potential peace agreement remain ongoing. European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen said on X that "the tide is clearly turning for Ukraine". (Reuters)

🌍 In a new opinion piece for Economia3, GOLD AVENUE’s CEO Nicolas Cracco shares his perspective on why gold should be seen not as a short-term trade, but as a long-term store of value.

💬 “The current price declines are not exit signals, but potentially strategic entry points for those who understand that wealth is built over decades, not over a few days of trading.”

Last Week’s Market Recap
⬇️
Between June 8 and June 12, gold prices came under pressure as investors focused on the prospect of higher interest rates and their impact on non-yielding assets. Rising oil prices fuelled concerns that inflation could remain elevated, potentially prompting central banks to maintain a restrictive stance. As markets reassessed the interest rate outlook, gold briefly retreated. Toward the end of the week, easing geopolitical concerns and expectations of a more measured policy path helped stabilise prices.

Gold price
Over the past week, gold declined -2.13%, falling from a weekly high of $4,354.38/oz ($140.00 per gram) on June 8 to a low of $4,058.22/oz ($130.47 per gram) on June 11.

Silver price
Silver gained +3.27% over the week, reaching a weekly high of $70.54/oz ($2.27 per gram) on June 8.

Weekly digest: Stock markets wobble as gold and oil continue to slide

1 🔥 US inflation continues climb. The latest consumer price index report released Wednesday showed US inflation outpaced wages for a second straight month as the Iran war pushed energy prices up. The CPI rose 4.2% from a year earlier, the biggest hike since early 2023. (Bloomberg)

2 🥇 Gold Takes Another Hit. Gold slipped to $4,202/oz on Friday, down 6.63% over the week, as renewed US-Iran clashes rattled a fragile Middle East truce, leaving its value about a fifth below where it was trading pre-war.

3 📊 Wall Street wobbles. Wall Street lost momentum midweek, as renewed US-Iran tensions drove up volatility, dragging the S&P 500 and Nasdaq lower. A tech sell-off, inflation worries and anticipation around SpaceX’s IPO overshadowed gains in value stocks and the Dow. (Reuters)

4 🛢️ Crude premiums in retreat. Physical oil markets have cooled, with Dated Brent dropping to near $98 a barrel. This despite ongoing supply disruptions, though shrinking inventories may yet threaten renewed price pressure. (Bloomberg)

5 💵 Dollar holds firm. The dollar steadied this week, as investors balanced renewed US-Iran hostilities against expectations for US inflation data that could shape Federal Reserve policy. (Reuters)

6 🏦 Record government borrowing. Governments have borrowed a record $504 billion from syndicated bond markets so far this year, driven by increased spending on defence and protecting consumers from price shocks. Demand is particularly high for shorter maturities, despite uncertainty over interest rates. (Bloomberg)

7 🚢 Suez sees benefits. Oil tanker traffic through Egypt’s Suez Canal jumped 28% in April, lifting revenue to its highest level since early 2024, as the Strait of Hormuz closure redirected energy shipments via the Red Sea despite ongoing regional security risks. (Bloomberg)

8 🕊️ Peace deal imminent? President Trump has said a peace deal between Iran and the US could be signed as early as this weekend, with the Strait of Hormuz reopening immediately afterwards. Tehran meanwhile has “not reached a final conclusion” amid a tense week of further attacks. (Reuters)
