Why did the DWISS S1 win?

In the words of the jury:

“The Jury recognises the DWISS S1 for its elegant design and harmonious craftsmanship, where every detail, from screws to embossed elements and part lines has been thoughtfully integrated into a unified object.”

The jury also said the S1 “demonstrates how good design can add meaningful value to a classic product category while maintaining responsible manufacturing principles.”

The Australian Good Design Awards started in 1958 and are Australia’s longest-running international design awards. Every project is judged on three criteria: Good Design, Design Innovation and Design Impact. This year’s theme is Design that Leads.

Thank you to the jury and to Good Design Australia. We look forward to the ceremony on Friday 9 October at ICC Sydney.

DWISS S1 is a 2026 Australian Good Design Award Winner.

recognised the S1 in the Product Design, Sport and Lifestyle category. An independent jury of more than 100 Australian and international design experts evaluated it.

The S1 reads time the way it was first read: from the sky. Each hour rises on the left of the dial, crosses the arc and sets on the right, while the next one appears behind it. Where the numeral sits along the arc gives you the minute. Seconds turn on the central disc.

Any watch can tell time. DWISS tells it differently.

Two days ago, on October 1st, the ADI Design Index 2026 selection was officially presented at the ADI Design Museum in Milan. We are proud to share that the DWISS S1 has been selected.

Curated by the ADI Permanent Design Observatory, the Index is the annual selection of outstanding Italian design. Only projects included in the ADI Design Index can compete for the Compasso d’Oro, making this the first step toward the ### Compasso d’Oro ADI.

For the S1, this recognition highlights the strength of its core idea: turning the act of reading time into a visible, mechanical experience. Two satellite discs travel across the upper arc of the dial. The active hour points to the minute scale, while seconds are shown on the central disc. This special edition uses FKM rubber straps.

Designed by DWISS founder Rafael Simoes Miranda, S1 now enters a new chapter. Tomorrow and Saturday we will share more about its design and the story behind this selection.

Per S1, questo riconoscimento conferma la forza dell’idea al centro dell’orologio: trasformare la lettura del tempo in un’esperienza visiva e meccanica. Due dischi satelliti percorrono l’arco superiore del quadrante. L’ora attiva indica i minuti, mentre i secondi sono visualizzati sul disco centrale.
