A few words about how we work with leftover leather:
Unlike many larger brands, we don’t buy leather in large quantities. We work with leftover leather that already exists on the market. Every hide is carefully selected by hand, and only then do we decide which product it will become.
This also means that not every bag is available in every colour. Often, we only find a few hides in a specific shade. We love this because it makes each piece more unique while also being a more sustainable way of working with leather.
That said, this approach comes with its challenges: constantly changing colours, creating new product listings, preparing photos, and managing production when there are countless shades that look almost identical. On top of that, leather prices have increased significantly over the last few years.
This time, I travelled to Casablanca three times and visited several leather markets and warehouses in Marrakech in search of beautiful new leather. Often, you only find a handful of hides in the colours you are looking for. Every trip becomes a question of whether the effort is worth it, because beyond the rising costs, there is also a huge amount of time, energy and physical work involved.
And honestly, I have often thought about giving it up. Leather is definitely one of the most demanding parts of our business.
But Faim-Zahra and Youssef have been with me since my very first days in Marrakech. They have become family. And for that reason alone, I cannot imagine letting this part of our work go.
