Beijing Council International Auction

After two days of intensive auctions sales during the 3rd and 4th of June, Beijing Council Auction achieved a total result of 1.33 billion Yuan ( $196 million and €174 million) with 19 lots sold over 10 million of yuan. The record was made by "Character Story", a painting on silk made by Qiu Ying during the 17th century, which was sold for 81,65 million of Yuan ($12 million and € 10,71 million).

This spring auction sale happens in a context of a major expansion of Council which is not only consolidating its position in Beijing but is also developing its Shanghai and Honk Kong representative offices and dealing with abroad market through its New York office. Thus a major auction sale will happen in Shanghai Council in December.

This magnificent altar vase, dated to 1741, appears to be the work of Tang Ying (1682-1756), a master potter under the Qing Dynasty. The underglaze-blue style is typical of this period. According to this inscription, this vase was made as a garniture for a Taoist temple. Tang Ying commissioned a number blue-and-white altar garnitures for temples in Beijing, but no such Tang Ying altar vase appears to have survived. Estimated between 30 and 35 million RMB, it was finally sold for 66 million of yuan - around 6.66 million euros - during Council 2010 Autumn auction.
